Does Gifted Adept trait increase caster level beyond cap?

Rules Questions

If I apply this trait to Shocking Grasp, at 1st level, I'll be doing 2d6 damage instead of 1d6 (the way I read the trait).

But SG has a hard cap of 5d6, so I'll top out at level 4 and from level 5 and on, this trait will be a waste, or will it?

However, feats and traits tend to break the general rules. Already, this trait breaks the standard rule of 1d6/caster level. So does this feat allow me to deal 6d6 damage at level 5 w/ SG?

I think it can be interpreted both ways.

The damage still caps at 5d6 (or 10d6 with the Intensify Spell feat), but there are other benefits from having a higher caster level. Concentration checks are improved by +1, and overcoming Spell Resistance is +1 easier as well.

It could break the cap if the trait actually increased the damage by 1d6, for instance. But it increases the caster level, and the caster level isn't what's capped - it's just that higher caster levels don't raise the damage past 5d6. Caster level 5 - 5d6. Caster level 25 - 5d6.
