Handling multiple codes of honor in a setting?

Product Discussion

I suppose this discussion could also fit in the general roleplaying forum, but I am asking from a game/setting design point of view:

How would you handle tracking PC Honor scores (from Ultimate Campaign) in a setting where different cultures have widely different codes of honor (and thus views of the PCs' actions)?

Is it possible to keep track of a hero's Honor, if it is different from one region/culture/nation to another?

Or would you rule that Honor applies to a PC's "home culture" and that when traveling among all other cultures the PC is viewed as a strange foreigner whose effective Honor can never rise above e.g. 40?

How would you apply varying Honor Codes in a campaign setting - if you had to?

I would simply track them separately by Honor Code.

Meaning that PC1 would have Honor score 1A, 1B and 1C in cultures A, B and C respectively?

I wouldn't. I'd consider that purely a roleplaying consideration and not attach mechanics to it.

I agree with Chuck. Honor in this regard is perceived honor rather than personal honor. It's not really the players honor as much as it's their reputation within a given community. Therefore each community (or area that shares a similar ideal of honor) would have it's own view of the player based on their actions.

Jesper - Yep, that's what I mean.

Zhayne - That's fine, but Jesper is clearly of the mind to use the rules to chart his roleplay considerations.
