Hi folks! Yes, this is a long shot. But I'm a gamer about to move to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and was wondering if there's any players out there.
There's an Islamic prohibition against "games of chance", but I've seen some posts from folk looking for gamers in the eastern part of Saudi Arabia, so it's not impossible.
And if there aren't, how cool would it be to start the first Society events in the Middle East? Assuming I won't lose a hand (or worse) over it, of course.

Depends on their definition of chance...normally for such it is associated with gambling..which is prohibited...at least on their soil.
Will you be anywhere near a military installation that would have joint US troops? Normally that is a prime trolling ground for gamers :) That or being with "Western" contractors.

I'd recommend that you play online PFS games.
Although I'm not sure in what capacity you are going DoD, DoS, etc - in any case, our game revolves around dice - which may seem like gambling to others, regardless of your intentions.
Be on the safe side - just don't do it, unless you are in an installation. Little things like this can and will stir up the locals especially if you recruit local Saudis. You may inadvertently cause issues for the Diplomats/Military or company personnel.

We have just started organizing PFS in the Middle East. I would love to hook up with the players in Saudi. We are so new we are still organizing our first game. If you can road trip to Dubai on the 24th of Jan. you can join in the kickoff. Otherwise, I'm sure we can coordinate something.
@Forrest Beal, do you take turns as GM or is it just one guy? I'd love to hear how things are working out for you there. I'm looking forward to chatting with you soon.

I cannot make it to Dubai currently. We do not take turns GMing right now. We also just started playing and this will be our 3rd week in a very long campaign.(possibly years) The guy GMing really enjoys it and the rest of us are new to PF. (I have a background in D&D though) We are using 2 1/2D tiles made from cardboard and are having as much fun making them as playing the game. We are trying to find some minis over here but not having much luck. Currently we are using chess pieces and paper minis.
