A Silly Question that Likely has an Obvious Answer

My son is very interested in Pathfinder and I was thinking of taking him to a local PFS game I've found. Is it legal for me to let him use one of my PFS characters or does he have to have his own PFS number?

(Please don't skewer me too mericlilessly)

You would need him to have his own character.

Nothing to skewer

He needs his own, but of course he can always play a pregen, or you can make and maintain the character for him.

Each of you could play a character. There are at least a couple father/son groups in my area.

I think it will create more problems in the future than just getting him his own number.

If he's using your number, he can't play anything you have played, this includes playing in a game you are playing at, because it will show up as the same player playing twice.

He should have his own PFS number and character.

Good point. Thank you

If he's unfamiliar with the system, I don't think a GM would be opposed to letting the two of you "co-pilot" a character during a game if it helped ease him into the rules. You, of course, would get the chronicle for that game and apply it to your character. Your son would merely be helping you roll dice, count squares, make attacks -- that kind of thing.

What you might want to look into is seeing if your area can sponsor a Beginner's Box bash, a non-PFS event geared toward getting inexperienced folks into the game. And despite being non-PFS, it can grant participants a PFS-specific reward. If that's something that sounds interesting, I'd contact your local coordinator and they could get the ball rolling on setting one up.
