Improve This Loremaster!

Advice

I'm building a loremaster, looking for advice. A few things are non negotiable:

Class: He's going to be a wizard (shadowcaster, universalist (arcane crafter)). The shadowcaster helps to reduce the penalty of being a universalist.

Race: human, for focused study (which will probably go K: arcana, spellcraft & UMD or perception).

I'm looking at the best combo of feats to maximize "survival" at all levels. Here's what I've got for now:

Stats (20 pts)
Str 8 Dex 14 Con 14 Int 15+2 human Wis 12 Cha 13
Wizard
1 Defesive combat training, FS( skill focus (K: arcana)), Scribe scroll
2
3 Eld Heritage (arcane), Craft Wondrous items
4
5 Craft Magical Arms & armor, Darkvision
6
7 Fast study
Loremaster
8 Secret health (toughness)
9 Improved Familiar (pipefox)
10 Lore of true stamina
11 Extend spell
12 Applicable knowledge ( dont know what feat to choose)
13 Craft staff

Any ideas? The metamagic feat "extend spell" was a rather random choice. This guy will be a big crafter, so craft construct might be a good idea. Any others?

If you take craft staff at level 11, then you can take Staff-like wand at level 13. While you cannot actually make wands, this will enable the ones you have to have much more utility (i.e. ones that might affect a save).

Cant qualify for staff like wands (unfortunately), since I'm multiclassing.

curses, you are right. In that case I would take Quicken spell over extend. IMO by level 11, most spells last 'long enough' or can be extended with a cheap rod (e.g. Mage armor)

Wish I could help more.

That's ok, I'm not going to play this anytime soon. I've been working on this build for a bit, and I think it's survivable, but I just want to make it better I guess.

Well, I've been playing this Transmuter/Loremaster elven craftsman with Eldritch Heritage. He's deeply non-optimized but has been a heck of a lot of fun to play. Lots of craft skill, goes around describing himself as an "artisan" or "carpenter" or "stonemason" depending on who he's interacting with. Focused on battlefield control/buffs with a side of save or suck, very little direct damage (which is unusual for me - I like blaster mages). Very Lawful Neutral, keeper of the adventuring party charter and prone to statements like "we should consider that during our quarterly charter review, I will add it to the agenda". I realize the Bloodline isn't optimal, but it's in keeping with the labyrinthine backstory I put in place for him (he's the destined scion of a cursed line that doesn't want to be an adventurer but is forced through the circumstances of the Adventure Path).

Anyway, I don't know if any of this is useful but check it out. I stair stepped the wizard/loremaster levels for a number of reasons (including the two free spells per level as a wizard).

Feat Tree: (Wizard – Transmutation/Enhancement 10th; Loremaster 10th)
Level Progression: Wizard Level 1-7; Loremaster 8; Wizard 9; Loremaster 10-11; Wizard 12-13; Loremaster 14-20
1st: Skill Focus – Knowledge (History), Scribe Scroll
3rd: Eldritch Heritage (Bloodline – Destined: Touch of Destiny)
5th: Evolved Familiar (Skilled: +8 to Use Magic Device)
5th: (Wizard Bonus Feat) Craft Wand
7th: Craft Wondrous Item
8th: (Loremaster Secret 1st) Secret Health (Toughness)
9th: Arcane Builder (Wondrous Item)
11th: (Loremaster Secret 3rd) Applicable Knowledge (Bonus Feat: Improved Eldritch Heritage (Bloodline – Destined: It Was Meant to Be))
11th: Spell Focus: Transmutation
13th: Opposition Research (Illusion)
13th: (Wizard Bonus Feat) Persistent Spell
15th: (Loremaster Secret 5th) Lore of True Stamina
15th: Greater Spell Focus: Transmutation
17th: (Loremaster Secret 7th) Secrets of Inner Strength
17th: Greater Eldritch Heritage: Within Reach
19th: (Loremaster Secret 9th) Secret Knowledge of Avoidance
19th: Improved Initiative

Something you might want to consider also is just really maxing out int. I'd not worry about charisma or wis as much as you did. Maxing out int will really help you be the ultimate "lore master"

also if you're willing to be a different race, dwarves, elves, and gnomes all get "breadth of knowledge"

Even though you're multiclassing, it's clear you're not in PFS, so talk with him about "character lvl 11" on staff like wand meaning your wizard caster levels, rather than just your class lvls (it's not a huge stretch really)

What are you using for your wizard bond and your eld heritage bond?

Sczarni

Just remember you can't get a second arcane bond or a familiar through eldritch heritage...

Yes, which is why I took shadowcaster (the archetype); they loose the arcane bond to get shadow spells (which I assume doesnt conflict with the eld heritage).

And for the moment, it's just a theoretical build I've been working on, so I prefer staying away from houserules. There are other arcane discoveries I would take before staff-like wand let's say.
