I have a character who is thinking about getting Shield Mastery but his Shield is a Klar as per the rules in UE. I have already paid to make is a +1 attacking/+2 Defensive Klar so total cost was 6462 (2000 for +1 weapon, 4000 for +2 shield, 300 masterwork weapon, 150 masterwork shield, 12 for Klar) My plan was to get the defense up to a 4 or 5 becuase I only use it for one handing my Earthbreaker with Thunder and Fang feat.
My question is, Will I get the Full defensive bonus to the klar with Shield Mastery or does it not work because the Klar is a weapon and a shield?

I thought that Defending could only be put on melee weapons. If that is the case then you would have to put the defending property on the weapon portion of the Klar. So it would need to be a +1 defending weapon (8K)and a +1 shield (1K)plus 462 for the MW Klar for a total of 9,462.
After that is fixed I do not see a reason why you would not get the defensive bonus to your AC. Looks RAW to me.

Crispy3ed, I'm fairly certain there were no enhancments added to the Klar, he was saying he enchanted it to +1 as a weapon, and +2 as a shield (attacking/defensive). At least that's how his math comes out supporting that.
I would think it should work, since a klar isn't much different than having shield spikes and attacking with them. For a martial character, a shield is as much a weapon as a klar is, since a shield bash is considered a martial weapon.
I flagged to move to the rules forums, but I also agree with Eric.

So with Shield Mastery, you get the +2 to attack/damage (enchantment) and it won't stack with the existing +1 to attack/damage (enchantment.) So you get a net +1 attack/damage from Shield Mastery not +2.
Another thing you should be aware, while using the earth-breaker in one hand, you work it as a one handed weapon. Only 1x STR, and Power Attack only works as using a one handed weapon.

I'm well aware I only get my strength mod and not extra. And eventually I will be getting the defense bonus higher so with shield mastery it also becomes attack bonus. Didn't want to take the feat if it didn't work like I thought/hoped it did
