Playing an Abomination

Rules Questions

Is it possible to Play a Half Elf with Orc racial heritage or a Half Orc with Elf racial heritage?

Is there a way to be a Half Elf Half Orc and access both the Orcish and Elvish blood traits?

I mean a Half Elf could be um... married.. by an Orc. Or a half orc could particularly impress an Elf hypothetically.

Are there rules for such?

The first of Orlf club is that we don't talk about Orlf club.

Silver Crusade

An elf/orc couple using wish or miracle to have a child would be really cool. And heartwarming.

Alternately, it's entirely possible for a loving but biologically incompatible union like that to produce aasimar children. Blood of Angels actually has some nice flavor options for such offspring.

Would human blood make offspring possible? Maybe Half Orc and Half Elf marry. A half human is then born whose other half is 1/4 Orc and 1/4 Elf. Is there no way that double racial heritage can occur? I dont see why. Granted, this is a a fantasy world but we are saying that both orcs and elves can procreate with humans. This would seem not only possible but inevitable and give rise to such hybridization.

PRG and D&D avoid elf/orc rules to steer clear of the Tolkien estate, iirc.

I honestly dont see why half-orc or half-elf is necessarily half-human. I mena, if orcs & elves can breed with humans, they should be able to breed with each other. What would that give? No clue.

Even if Human blood is what allows offspring between races, as suggested in the Racial Heritage Feat, there remains the possibility of both parents contributing alternate heritage.

If H+O=HO and H+E=HE, then E+O=EO or HO+HE=HOE

It would seem likely that even if the "Elf Orc" were prevented by infertility the Human with Elf and Orc heritage could eventually be found. Unless, Devs just don't want that.

Somewhere a dusty old rulebook mentions that elves and orcs are incompatible, though I don't remember which book. Now, this may not be a hard and fast RULE, and may be dismissed as "fluff" (hate that word so...), but it is a sensible and longstanding part of those creatures background.

Additional orc-breeding fun facts:

There were other "rules" mentioned for orc breeding, such as the orogs and ogrillons of orc/ogre unions. The former (orc dad, ogre mom) produced a lawful, intelligent "super orc" showcasing the best of both species, the latter (orc mom, ogre dad) an armor-plated, sterile berserker.

Personally, I still use previous edition rulebooks for non-mechanical flavour "rules" like this one.

Well, in a home game (with GM permission) you could use the Race Builder from the ARG to make a humanoid with both the "elf" and "orc" subtypes.

Elf or Half Elf sorcerer with Orc bloodline.

Half Elf taking Racial Heritage (Orc).

Half Orc taking Racial Heritage (Elf).

Both Half Elves and Half Orcs can take the Racial Heritage feat due to the FAQ that "counts as human for effects related to race", which both possess, includes feats.

So it is possible within the rules. How do you explain it happening IC...? Up to you.

Maybe you are the child of a Half orc and Half elf, and your parents' human element allowed the mixing.

Samasboy,

I agree with your breakdown. It seems the most direct solution with the rules we have. Needed to confirm the existence of that FAQ though, thanks.

It is my understanding that it is the biology of specifically the human that makes breeding with orcs and elves possible. I do not remember where I read that but it is in my memory from somewhere in the last 25 years. It is quite likely from the flavor text of a racial entry, and I am entirely positive from a TSR or WOTC book.

But, still... its a make-believe game so knock yourself out.

The thing is, its not only humans that interbred.

Dnd, generally, and Pathfinder, specifically, is full of interspecies breeding.

Half Dragons, Half Giants, Half Fiends, Half Celestials, Half Elves, Half Orcs, Ogrillons, and a thousand more examples.

It seems being able to get jiggy and produce offspring is the rule rather than the exception.

Found it! Near the bottom under the half-orc subsection:
quote=Monstrous Manual (2nd ed.)]Orcs will crossbreed with virtually every humanoid and demihuman species except elves, with whom they cannot.

Play as you like, as this has no weight in Paizo games. I just like to use older books as "ancient lore", some of which may be inaccurate.

Old edition fun:
Use an old outdated reference sometime if someone barely fails a Knowledge check!

Thanks for all the great info guys,

Just a recap to confirm one last time.

You absolutely can play a HalfOrc with the Human feat Racial Heritage Elf, opening Elf racial trait options.

And You absolutely can play a HalfElf with the Human feat Racial Heritage Orc opening Orc racial trait options.

But only through human blood is this possible in Pathfinder.

Yes?

No. Because an Elf or Half Elf could take the Orc sorcerer bloodline (indicating Orc ancestry, and giving you the Orc subtype).

You couldn't take Orc Racial Traits (ex. Toothy) but you could take Orc Race Traits, or feats, PrCs, archetypes....

Silver Crusade

Still kinda like the idea of orc + elf babies simply being human.

Silver Crusade

Or that in Eberron that humans were simply fleshwarped orcs.
