Ever going to see the Alienist PrC for Pathfinder?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

With the Great Old Ones in Bestiary 4, I continue to hanker after my all time favorite prestige class. As it is, I can't summon odd melted horrors from the Beyond. Are we ever going to see some official character options with a Lovecraft focus in the game?

To my knowledge the alienist itself isn't OGL so your probably not going to see it, nor is anything from Lords of Madness which had a number of lovecraftian things for PCs if I remember correctly. Your always free to homebrew and use 3.5 materials in your game though, and you can make some glorious things with a bit of work.

Who knows though, a book on the far realm might turn you into Wilbur Whately. To my knowledge the best you have in pathfinder is some sorcerer bloodlines and whatever an alchemist is after a few mutations.

Go have a look at Legendary Games' supplements, especially Cultic Cryptomancia and their new Mutant Manifesto.

In the pathfinder campaign universe, lovecraftian horrors don't, by and large, hail from a different plane. They're from the Prime Material plane -- Cthulhu, for instance, dwells in R'lyeh on Earth. Our Earth.

Personally I would prefer them to be an Archetype of the Summoner. That would allow them to be able to do more with it, and make it so you don't have obnoxious pre-reqs.

I always thought it was a neat prestige class in concept but in 3.5 summoning was a sub-optimal option at best and I could never get the class to be as cool as it seemed like it should be.

If it, or something similar, were retooled as an archetype for the summoner, that would be pretty awesome. Hell, we're getting more stuff about the Dominion of the Black over the next year so maybe we will see this crop up soon.

I would have liked to see the summoner as a 'druid of the planes' sort of thing, where you get an outsider companion, i.e. an outsider that matches your alignment that progresses in the same manner as an animal companion.

Doesn't it already do that? I thought there were just minor differences in progression and that they used outsider HD instead of animal HD for their levels?

I think about the closest you could get would be a fetchling shadow caller (race specific summoner archtype) and take the eldritch heritage feat for the warped bloodline.

Then pick all the bizzaro evolutions.

It Came From the Stars and the follow up release have some nice items that can give you a nice Lovecraftian bend.

Mr Sin: The eideleon is much more customizable than an animal companion -- which is the problem.
