Help me shop for my Sorcerer

Advice

Sczarni

I'm currently at level 3, and have ~4000g. My current Fame spending limit is 3000g. So far all I've purchased of note is a few wands and a Cloak of Resistance +1. Should I buy the +1 AC / 2000g Ring of Protection or Amulet of Natural Armor (I'm leaning towards no, because really I try to avoid being attacked and I'm hoping my gold might be better spent)? Is there anything else interesting at my current level? Anything I should save for in the near future?

I'm fairly new to Pathfinder; this is my 2nd character and my first caster. I'm Arcane bloodline, going for a well-rounded utility build. Current level 1 spells: Color Spray, Mount, Vanish, Identify (free spell). I've got wands of Infernal Healing and Enlarge Person.

Thanks very much for any input.

My sorceress is also Arcane Bloodline. At your spending level, there are a lot of choices.

I had purchased a pair of bracers of armor, but sold them later when I saw how little use armor class was for her. At level 10 I still have an armor class of 12. One of that is from the ring of protection, to raise the touch armor class.

One of the best purchases I have made is a Mnemonic Vestment, which costs 5000, so it is out of your range now, but keep it in mind as you head towards it. It allows great versatility in spells, but you need scrolls and/or spellbooks to use it. I'm not sure if a sorcerer can even scribe in a spellbook as a wizard can.

I bought a low-priced Brooch of Shielding, with just 40 points on it, to prevent a readied magic missile from causing a really hard concentration check. It has worked a few times.

My favorite purchase has been my Selective Metamagic Rod, so I can cast fireball, and other area spells, in the midst of a fight. You won't be ready for this for a couple of levels yet, if that soon.

Feather Step slippers have been really useful for getting where I need to be. A Handy Haversack has been almost invaluable with my dumped strength. There are many choices, and to see the value of items you have to put yourself in the situation they are related to, then visualize what might happen.

If you really want some AC, don't buy Bracers of Armor, but choose Silken Ceremonial Armor instead. It's from Ultimate Combat, has a +1 armor bonus, and no arcane spell failure.

But if you want to stay out of combat anyway, better save the gold.
What you might want to think about is a Runestone of Power (from PFS Field Guide), which grants you an additional spell per day of a given level. A Runestone for 1st level spells costs 2000 gp.

Shadow Lodge

Why not a Haramaki? It's a quarter the weight and a tenth the cost of Silken Ceremonial Armor with the same stats. And it's from the same book.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The best thing you can do right now is ready your gold pile for your Headband of Charisma, for when you end up with enough Fame.

If you are concerned with AC, and will have enough gold to spare, consider a Page of Spell Knowledge for Mage Armor. It's from Ultimate Equipment, but being that you are using a Wand of Infernal Healing, I assume that book ownership is not a roadblock.

Save for metamagic rods. Empowered is great, selective is handy, quicken is invaluable (but pricey). Consider an extended metamagic rod, to make some of your buff spells last a whole adventure.
