AoMF Questions

Rules Questions

Shadow Lodge

Hello all,

I have a couple of questions about what can be placed on an Amulet of Mighty Fists:

1:Can you place Keen/Vorpal on it if you have tiger style (I.E. unarmed strikes do slashing damage)?

2:Can you make a Throwing Returning AoMF?

The RAW answers would probably be
1:No, unarmed strikes still aren't slashing weapons, just bludgeoning weapons you can cut people with.
2:Yes, nothing says it doesn't apply.

RAI, I have no idea. I think the Throwing Returning is an oversight though. Any ideas about how that would play out?

1: Yes you can place Keen or Vorpal on it, however it won't be truly active until you are somehow dealing Slashing/Piercing.

2: No idea how you'd "throw" your natural attack or fist unless it could stretch... RAW I guess it'd be a yes, but it almost sounds too cheesy RAI.

For 2, I would say no, unless you are a Mazinger.

Unless you mean that you throw the Amulet. Still no, but at least it is more interesting. I might allow it if only for the humor value.

No reason to stop vorpal/keen. AoMF works for natural attacks too. These enchantments just wouldn't function unless you dealt piercing or slashing damage so a +1 Keen AoMF on a creature with 2 claws(Sl) and a tail slap(Bl) would apply keen to the claws but not the tail. This same caveat exists in the transformative weapon description.

As for throwing or returning... well technically from a purely RAW perspective, yes. Completely pointless though since you would have to throw a body part... and even if you could throw a body part, it would lose the AoMF enchantments as soon as it was removed from the body wearing the necklace.

You can have an ability that makes you immune to disarm attempts with a particular weapon and you select a weapon that inherently cannot be disarmed (ie. Unarmed Strike, Gauntlet, etc), does the ability do you any good? No. Can you select that weapon as the object of the ability? Absolutely. You can make a Throwing Returning AoMF... but it won't do you any good because neither Unarmed Strikes nor Natural Attacks can be thrown. It'd be no different to a character immune to Fear or not subject to morale bonuses wielding a Courageous weapon (gives a morale bonus to saves vs Fear).
