Spyglass - Play at the start of my turn before I move?

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

Hi guys,

I just advanced the Blessings Deck at the start of my turn...

Can I play the Spy Glass before I move? Or, does the Spy Glass have to be played after I choose to move or not move? I'm trying to confirm if that move step has to be the very first thing I choose to do or not do.

I was reading through the turn sequence doc to try and catch the answer but I must be blind:(

Thanks in advance for the Wisdom +2,

Ben

The general rule is that you can play a card at any time that the rules don't prohibit it (e.g. once you start to recharge your hand at the end of your turn or if the card itself gives limits on when it can be played). I think you can do what you want to do.

You can play Spyglass at that time along with any other Anytime-type card (those that don't trigger an explore and don't say Your Turn). I'd suggest getting Christian/H4ppy's Turn Sequence Breakdown on BGG. It's excellent at telling you when you can and can't play cards.

Thanks, guys. Basically, I had played Spyglass to start my turn and didn't like what I saw. So, I wanted to move to another location and explore (instead of where I was currently). I had a feeling I could do so since I didn't do the Explore step but just wanted to double check as it's a rather pivotal rule.

Kysmartman: Yeah - I've looked through that most excellent doc but I just didn't see this answered in there. However, I could have easily missed it (as it's rather late in AZ now) :)

That's one of the best ways to use Spyglass. Either be good by revealing the Henchman/Villain or "bad" by revealing stuff you can't pick up or magical monsters you might not be able to defeat so you know to get out of there.

There's an "any time window" before you move so yes you can use Spyglass first and then move if you don't like what you found.

If that's not clear from the turn sequence docs please let me know and I'll see if I can make it clearer!

I'm gonna re-read that section and then circle back.

Much appreciated, h4ppy.
