5. Green stuff
I think the Hydrostone is basically the same thing as the dental plaster.

Matt, don't know how long it's been since you cast anything, but the range of gypsum plaster products on the market is downright bewildering. I've used several different varieties and have found Hydrostone to be the best mix of availability, durability, usability and paintability (to coin a word). There might be better stuff out there somewhere, but that stuff is HEAVY and I don't want to end up paying more for shipping than the stuff costs itself. I buy my Hydrostone at an art supply store in fifty pound bags for about $30. I had bought some "dental plaster" that I had to have shipped that cost me about three times what the local Hydrostone cost me. I've probably got over 100 pounds of cast blocks in my game room now, and about 1/3 of that has been used to build stuff. The rest is waiting for my next build binge.

I think about eight years ago, and being not only in the UK but in the back of beyond in the UK (although the case could be made that's one and the same thing) my choices were somewhat limited back then. I think I even had to have the molds shipped over from the US, but since found somewhere "local" - as in, at least there's no wide expanse of water between me and them :)
I'm still on the same giant bag of dental plaster though, so I've just not needed to go looking for an alternative since. Will have to poke around and investigate now you've got my interest sparked again!| Adamantine Dragon |
I hope you sealed up your dental plaster, or else that you live in an extremely low humidity environment. Plaster powder tends to absorb moisture over time and becomes much harder to cast with when the absorbed moisture reaches a certain level. I keep mine in sealed tupperware type containers.
I wish you luck, just responding on this thread has gotten me to pull out my blocks and mess around with them tonight. Maybe that will lead to actually making something. :)

Savage Worlds is pretty awesome, though I've only read through it. Simple but crunchy.
Numenera is okay. Not really what I was hoping for, but it's solid for what it does.| limsk |

things have to really wow me to warrant a purchase these days, or be something that I can use with all the stuff I already own (like minis)... though after seeing some of the new-ish stuff on the PRD, I will be purchasing a few more Pathfinder hardcovers in the near future.
Still hoping that someday soon I'll be able to afford a few Pathfinder subscriptions.

Those AD&D books are a good find at a used book sale - I never seem to luck out and find them when looking in used book stores, yard sales, etc. Curiously, were they selling them for a steal at $5 or the like or were they charging more of the going rate you'd see on ebay? Were they in good condition?
