Central Casting: Is this book still around?

Product Discussion

SO I was digging though my old stuff and I stumbled across a couple of books from Task Force Games.

Central Casting: Heroes of Legend
Central Casting: Dungeons

These go way back to the 90s

The Dungeons one is still in good shape, Heroes of Legend however is....Well Used. The cover is gone, the pages that remain are holding together with the flimsiest strands of glue. When I was in High school I used this book a lot....a huge lot. I even wrote a program in BASIC to roll all the charts in one button push.

These books are total random generation for stuff, hundreds of charts for just about anything. the Dungeons one naturally is for random dungeons. I'm in the middle of giving it an run for old times sake already (50 rooms and counting)

Heroes of Legend was to create character backgrounds. Weird wonderful and sometimes insane backgrounds.
Unfortunately there isn't enough left of the book to be usable. I can't find it on Drivethru RPG either.

Does anyone know if this book is still out there someplace.

Good luck there. My own copies of these are well-worn.

Add to them the original CITIES BOOK from Chaosium, and you are ready to start your randomizing.

Not that I am aware of, one of the guys I play with has been searching long and hard for all of them. He has about half of the books from auctions and such.

I love Heroes of Legend. Although Ultimate Campaign is an wonderful modern replacement this is still an awesome book and can generate some out there stuff (although it is possible to role on many tables and end up with someone average).

See if you can find Heroes of Tomorrow for your sci-fi games....

Cheers

I have the Dungeons one somewhere. Got a lot of use out of that years ago.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I certainly hope not, at least not without significant revision. Any document that refers to homosexuality as a sexual disorder and marks it with their Dark Side alignment tag is something that should be burned and the author bludgeoned.

Perhaps this is why you can't find it anywhere.

From what I understand the company kind of dropped off the map after the guy in charge turned down the chance to buy Games Workshop. Apparently he didn't see a future in using metal miniatures for gaming because cheap pop out cardboard tiles were the way of the future.

guy with that level of thinking, not exactly the most socially aware, even in the 90s
