Given that human children are Small size, could a Kitsune's racial Change Shape ability (as per alter self letting you become small sized) be assigned to a young human form? No stat adjustments (as normal for the racial Change Shape), but just Small sized.
I think it would be interesting for a trickster Kitsune to be able to take the form of a mischievous youth.

Kitsune can only change into a single individual. While its not adressed this individual probably ages and grows with them.
So basicaly yes to your answer in theory but its likely pracrice and intent that the alternate form is someone your own age.
I imagine it would also be a younger Kitsune.
I suppose I could always just take this feat, though.

Well, even if you can't turn into a small sized character, you might still turn be able to turn into a 'child'. Remember, the earliest starting age for human adventurers is 16, and they are considered medium sized. So it is debatable how young you can appear before you start going into a different size category.
The rules for size say that medium humanoids are at least 4 feet tall, and the average height of a 12 year old girl in the UK was 4'11 in 1996 (yay google fu!). Admittedly, the average in game would be lower due to different qualities of life and diet in a semi-medieval environment. If you could only stuff so much of yourself in your assumed form, a girl would be a better choice, since they tend to experience growth spurts at a younger age.
Of course the young template works differently, and it just plain shouldn't have to deal with these kinds of minute details. Talk it over with your GM.

This is why things are so complicated. At what age does one lose the young template? And is the young template appropriate for humans when they enter into medium size at such a young age?
Plus, a kitsune can assume the form of any human they have met with realistic likeness. But we are wondering where the borders between all these different rules meet.

Why are we even talking about adding the young template to a humanoid creature when the Youth age category exists now? Ultimate Campaign was several months ago, after all!
I'd agree with an earlier poster: Realistic Likeness would allow you to transform into any human that you've seen before, including children. Otherwise a kitsune's human form ages with his natural form.

What I was trying to get at is bob the kitsune always looks like the same person and they will have looked liiebthat person since whenever the sbility manifests.
So when they are a child its a chikd when they are a teen its a teen and when thr kitsune I'd 90 that form is elderly becsusr its always the same unique individual.

And what we are getting at is that the racial feat, Realistic Likeness, allows a kitsune to ignore that and take on the appearance of a specific individual as well as their 'base' human form that would age (unless they copied themselves? When talking about a shapeshift that can copy appearances at will, it wouldn't be unusual for the to just change to themselves at an earlier age; that is another confusing aspect of this I suppose)
This thread is about how young you can appear using realistic likeness, and basically the limits of the kitsune's change shape ability per RAW. Is it only restricted to humans who are medium sized? Or can they appear like children?

By raw i believe that it would require the young template for an adventuring age kitsune to assume the form of a small human(or the removal of a template for a young kitsune)
The socialRamifications of kitsune children morphing into human children is pretty easy to pass off in the background
By game balance, being able to be small at will and pick up +1 to attack and AC is probably more than the feat is meant to do.
