Disarm Clarifications

Rules Questions

I have a few questions regarding gaps in the disarm rules which have not yet been addressed on the forums (or at least I haven't found them). My reading of the rules and forums seem to indicate the following:

I can in one round:
a) Disarm an opponent as a standard action
b) Pick up the weapon from his feet in the adjacent square as a move action (provoking a trivial attack of opportunity with his unarmed strike)
c) Drop the weapon behind me in another adjacent square as a free action or
d) or just keep it in my buckler hand as a carried item and carry on using my buckler for defense.
or
e) Run off giggling if it's a nice magic weapon

This nerfs greater disarm and disarming with an unarmed attack and poses all sorts of other game balance questions. Our current house rules are to prevent picking up an item in a square occupied by an enemy if they chose to prevent you as a free, immediate action to them

Weapon Cords:

Seems to me that a 25 cent weapon cord completely nerfs disarm if the opponent is wearing one because it's only a swift action for the opponent to recover it and then carry on as normal with (possibly) a full round of attacks. At least if it was a move action to recover the weapon there would be some benefit to disarm against an opponent with multiple attacks. We currently have no house rule for this.

Conversely if the disarmer is wearing a weapon cord it completely removes the hazard of dropping your own weapon on a badly failed disarm. Again we have no house rule for this.

Actions whilst wearing a weapon dangling from a weapon cord e.g. climbing. The manual says there should be some penalty for doing this but does not elaborate. We will be trialing a rule which gives -5/Light Weapon, -10/One-handed and -15/Two-handed on any DEX or STR DC with a dangling weapon. A formal rule would be nice.

Following on from some of the forum comments on cutting the cord an adamantine chain weapon cord seems relatively cheep way to block some of the cord cutting suggestions.

Locking Gauntlets:

I'd like clarification on the benefit (if any) of a locking gauntlet against a badly failed disarm. Seems to me that if it significantly boosts your disarm CMD it should have some benefit for a failed disarm but none is specified.

Sean Reynolds has had quite a few things to say on disarm, weapon finesse and the like in other posts, perhaps he could take a look at these issues or someone point me to a moderator's comments which I may have missed.

Yours, gwolf

Good news. A recent FAQ made using weapon cords a move action.

Your penalties seem far to high IMO. While it should be more difficult to climb with a spear hanging from your wrist than a dagger, I think a -15 penalty is a little steep.

Well, it only provokes after the disarm if they actually threaten with their unarmed strike.
