Knowledge (Art and Literature)?

Advice

RPG Superstar 2009 Top 8

Quick survey:

Say you want a character who is knowledgeable in things like art, books, music and the famous artisans who make them.

Do you make up a new Knowledge skill or do I try and fit it into an existing one?

in fact, how many of us treat the knowledge skills like craft, profession, and perform and how many think the 10 provided are it.

Knowledge(Local)

Knowledge of the art scene would be Local, but knowledge of works of art, art movements, famous artisans etc is probably History. There might be some overlap with Religion (or Nobility) etc if it involves relevant source material or circumstances, ie leaded glass windows in a cathedral, psalmistry, portraits of state etc.
Some ranks in Appraise would also be suitable for a character knowledgeable about such matters.

Liberty's Edge

Knowledge Local, History, Geography, Nobility and also Religion could all cover arts and literature.

If you wanted a side skill that could work, I would suggest allowing a player with sufficient skill in craft or profession related to a particular art to know "the masters" in a field.

Also appraise and linguistics could work.

There are a number of skills you could legitimately use.

I'd do pretty much what Makarion said. The Ear for Music trait gives a bonus to K(Local) to find out about the local art and music scene, which establishes a bit of precedent. K(History) would be the other one I would use, for past artists and such.
Knowing styles and similar things may come with a good Craft or Profession skill, alternatively.
