Gamer life has become a bit negative of late. Let's all account something good that happened to us or around us these days.
I was walking down a road near a park and saw an overweight man walking as fast as he could down the road, sweating and huffing. And then a car came by, slowed down and opened the windows, and the guys inside started blasting "Eye of the Tiger" and cheering him on.
That is one of the single most awesome things i have ever seen. Kinda makes me want to own a car so i could do that.

I have been on the receiving end of this b******* often enough in school that I can tell you, it is pretty bad to be mocked in public for nothing else but your weight. Thinking it is pretty funny is one thing, posting it on a website as an example of good things happening around oneself is pretty ugly IMO.

So, Hama, was there any visible reaction from the overweight guy huffing and puffing on the side of the road? Did he get angry and yell at the car, or did he raise his arms and play along with the joke?
Just based on the description Hama posted I can't tell if it was a "taunting" or if it was a legitimate light-hearted effort to encourage and acknowledge the walker's effort.
Whether I would find this to be "awesome" or "reprehensible" would require more information about the event. I can see it going either way from what I know so far.

Fey, I'm trying to give Hama (and Kirth) the benefit of the doubt here. I can envision the scenario either way. Yes, I suppose it is more likely that the dudes in the car were taunting, pointing and laughing at a fat guy, but maybe they were impressed by the guy's effort and wanted to give him a boost. It's possible, right?
If it was simply taunting, pointing and laughing at a fat guy, then yes, I would find that reprehensible. But then I don't laugh at most of the things that other people tend to find funny. Way back in the early days of videotapes there was a show called "America's funniest home videos." I hated that show because the majority of the videos were of people getting hurt or people being laughed AT, not laughing WITH. One season the winning video for the season was of a fat lady being bucked off a horse. Being bucked off a horse is an extremely dangerous thing, people DIE from being bucked off a horse. But she was fat so it was "funny". I never watched the show again.
Yeah, I suppose there is a 90% chance that this is a case of a bunch of selfish, rude and hateful jerks taunting and laughing at a poor overweight guy.
But that 10% chance is still there, right?

I suppose you are right. I am not in the best mood lately. That and some bad memories have probably made me react harsher than I should have, and for that I apologize.
To add to the intend of the thread: As I wrote - I am not in the best mood, so it takes a bit more to make me smile, but someone doing a load of housework I had to do, unasked, because she knew that my injured foot makes it hard for me to stand and walk, made me almost cry...in a good way.

Waking up this morning. For some reason, waking up always puts a smile on my face. Of course it quickly goes away when I realize I'm awake an hour before my alarm clock goes off, so it's either go back to sleep and maybe be late, or just get up and screw around while I get ready for work. Which leads to....
Winning all five of my PvP matches in Avengers Alliance this morning very quickly, and getting into Adamantium League. Hopefully I can maintain that!!

Proud gamer dad with 3 kids: 6+6 (boy+girl twins) and 4 1/2 (girl):
1) Two days ago they were playing their Lego Heroica game and the boy spontaneously started GM'ing: he told the girls he'd rebuild the 'level' and play the baddies. He made up some house rules, fudged the rules to let them beat his pile of goblins, and showered them with extra loot (including the One ring).
2) yesterday I let them discover my old DnD minis. The girls instantly asked if they could have one each, then one more, and immediately started spinning stories. Not the usual Barbie dramas...
3) Today I invented a little wargame with them: single d6 to move, hit and damage, 3+/4+/5+ to hit and 6-12 hit points (yes, it was also a cunning 1st grader math exercise). Things that made me smile the most:
* the 4 1/2 yr old moves her princess into a flanking position, saying "we are cooperating, now it's two against one". The brother responds by adding her roll of 3 to his 4 saying "we got 7, we hit!"
* little sister suddenly declares that her princess is a spellcaster, "but if I roll 6 I can cast a magic that shatters the rock monster [earth elemental] into little pebbles"
* the look on their face (and the jumping up and down) when they first got down to 50% health, then managed to kill the baddies.
* "Daddy, can we play again? pleeeeease?" (Followed by claims that the hyena should be on the good team, be hit only on 6+ and have 20 hit points...)

Again, I apologize for my knee jerk reaction. I explained (a bit) why it happened a few posts above and hope that neither Hama nor another poster will hold it against me.
