Items usable once per week.

Rules Questions

Is there a formula for building a item thats usable once per week?

No.
However you could extrapolate based off "number of uses per day", and hence divide the cost of 1 charge per day by seven.

That said, it could be rather imbalanced, and hence not appropriate for many spells. Realize that the custom item invention 'rules' are just guidelines that boil down to GM's approval and that aren't necessarily balanced at all.

In particular, I'd say that any spell that can only be cast once every x days (like hero's fortune), or even any spell that has days duration is inappropriate. To be fair, I think even spells that are just used uncommonly or rarely should also be excluded (like maybe resurrection), since it's abusing the fact that the spell isn't needed to be cast frequently.

Overall I think such items probably aren't a good idea, and maybe be better off to just use single-use items.

I seem to recall having some 1/wk items back in the old 2e days. In general they were about as useful as 1/day items, they certainly weren't 1/7 as useful as 1/day items.

I don't recall if they had pricing guidelines back then. I'd probably avoid 1/wk items unless there was a really compelling reason to have them.

No, there is no formula for that but as Joesi said, it could be extrapolated.

As with all custom magic items, we're entirely at the GM's discretion as to whether it's even allowed, and it's always GM Fiat to decide what the pricing is.

In some campaigns, where you have 30 or more encounters every week and the action, combat or roleplaying, is more or less non-stop, a once/week item would be nearly useless and would be fairly priced at 1/35th the price of an unlimited use item. (That's 1/7 of the 1/5 price for a once/day item)

But in other campaigns where the PCs might only be busy very infrequently, such as the PCs are running a kingdom and only have a couple encounters a month, then such an item would be just about as useful as an unlimited use item, certainly as valuable as a once/day item, and probably should cost no less than the 1/5 price for a once/day item.

So, depending on the campaign, how I would price it or whether I would even allow it could vary greatly.

Just give it 50 charges, then it's usable once per week for almost a year.

Ok, thank you for the tips. I will show this to my GM and let him decide if it fits his game. I could do scrolls but i wanna make a banner with regenerating spell streamers attached. And every week the streamers come back on my holy day. Im a mythic paladin and i want this banner to be a legendary item. (Back/shoulders) slot.

Back in 3.5, it was explicitly limited to once per ten days, for pricing rules. It could be used less often, but that was the limit for the price.
