Greetings
I am "old timer" having played D&D years ago in high school.
I have not played in years, but still browse boards, and enjoy following along with all of pathfinder releases.
Still have that urge to play, yet my time is somewhat limited and I am in somewhat remote area (NV)
Seeking a group that would be open to helping a newbie learn and play online.
Me: Well Educated world traveled professional
46 years old
Probably would not be the best "role" playing, or would at least need some practice with this. Would be more of simple roll (of the dice) player. HOpe i used those terms correctly
I have a few different character ideas in mind, and have no place to explore these options.
not sure if this is the correct place to post this
Online group would probably be best
I am Hr West of Vegas so perhaps a Las Vegas in person group?

If you are interested, join my Pathfinder PbP adaption of N1 cult of the reptile god. We just had an opening. Click on my GM tribute alias, find the Cult of the reptile god thread, and post in the discussion thread if you are interested.
You can take over Felgarr the paladin that just quit and copy his character sheet or roll up a level 2 martial character.

Check local gaming shops for groups looking for players, or local public Pathfinder game days.
There are normally games going on around military bases, so the odds are good there's something first-person near you. Heck, I now there's a pretty big table-top role-play gaming convention held in Vegas every year, so look for it as a point to make contacts, at the worst.
Online games tend to be slower. Play by post games tend to allow more time to try to expand your own role-play skills and ask questions about things.
Scan through the recruitment board, looking for threads for games that might interest you. Search for more information about what the thread says they are going to play, so you can decide if that sounds like it will be fun for you or not.
Skull and Shackles has the group becoming active pirates, trying to control the seas. Rise of the Runelords is a very traditional save the world type of quest, as is Reign of Winter. Wrath of the Righteous is more like a Paladin questing into Hell.
Find something that looks appealing. Come with a character concept (not a mechanical implementation, but a concept like a farmer impressed as a foot soldier or a magical student seeking deeper knowledge of the secrets of the planes or whatever else you think of that sounds good to you) and then apply to that game by describing that concept.
Many people here will be willing to help you get through the mechanics of implementing that idea. Some will want to do it for you. Some will just copy things from the "how to" threads about different optimized mechanical builds. Avoid both of those groups if you can. You'll want to build an implementation of the character, not plaster a picture on top of a stock build somebody else provides. You'll reduce your interest in the story that way, I think.
Let me know if I can help. I haven't run a game on these forums, yet. Wasn't planning on doing so any time soon, either. Feel free to look at my account and through my aliases (or anybody else's for that matter) and get a look at what people are doing. Yes, many people have output form a piece of software standardizing their character sheet displays. <shrug>
Edit:
I should note that I normally find a game that looks interesting first, and then try to find a character that appeals to me for that game specifically.
With the Ultimate Campaign book being in the PRD, there's a LOT of help available right there for building a background for a character, whether you use the random charts with dice or as inspiration. Either way can work.
