Wow, this blew up while I was looking away.
From what I remember they say Marcone was the first Vanilla mortal to join the accords, that others had some sort of power.
While a travel guide will be helpful, intimate knowledge isn't necessary. You don't create a full city, you make points of interest, assign aspects to them, and faces.
Like I could see Bourbon Street being a fav of the White Court, but overall the Winter Sidhe will have little power in the area. Not really their ... climate.
I like the Goblin Market idea, but the name wont fit. In the Dresdenverse Goblins are hunter types, not merchant. They are servants of the Erlking, Dresden kinda fell into their lap in one of the later books, Turn Coat or Changes I think. Maybe something based on Rumplstiltskin? He sounds like he might be a major wyldfae, not beholden to Summer or Winter, and seemed to love his bargains. And threshold rules wouldn't work, maybe have it Accorded Neutral Territory?

IIRC Goblin Market is actually the mythological term for it, that's why I stuck on that. Don't actually have to be goblins.

[edit]: ah, apparently the name stuck in my head because it was used by Changeling: the Lost, which stole it from a poem, when I read this article a while back. Good source material for the Supernatural Market (SuperMarket!)

Also, I have the books, both hard copy and pdf. I have been studying up with plans of attempting to DM a live game locally, but I don't think I am ready to step behind the screen quite yet, especially in a pbp format.

With the talk of it having portals from many different places to it, it started reminding me of Sigil, from Forgotten Realms.

I like that. Never played Planescape but I'm in love with the setting :)

(especially the Lady of Pain, one of the few elements in DnD/PF that remained iconic, mysterious, scary and did not become a banal and/or statted-out cliche).

I don't think the market (or anything else in the Nevernever) should become as cosmopolitan as Sigil though. Strange, primal and dangerous and not a safe place where you can 'people watch'.

Pathfinder Adventure Subscriber

Oh no, but I do think maybe there should be portals everywhere, that this is Neutral Accord Territory. Perhaps one of the easiest portals to enter in the mortal world is in New Orleans, which makes the terf wars there more about gaining control of who can enter and who can't

I like this. In fact I like this a lot. And I'm thinking that the Market could be some mix of Switzerland and Baghdad... its a place where the Supernatural can meet, and even discuss things in Neutral Ground, yet due to its volatile position it's still fairly violent. Maybe the ANG laws aren't as heavily enforced in the Market over all, but perhaps several buildings/structures/shops/what have you have better security?

Forgive me, but i'm also now relating this to Diagon Ally in HP.

[EDIT]
PS, I've got a lot of info jotted down on East New Orleans, and on how it relates to the rest of the city. I've got to go now, so no time to post, but later tonight/tomorrow morning I'll post my results.

Ooh, quick idea. Maybe in the Super Market every single utterance that could be interpreted as a promise, oath, deal, threat etc... is binding law that is enforced supernaturally?
"I hope to see you again" actually creates a magical effect that makes you long to meet the person again.
"I'll get back to you" is a promise on the level of swearing on your power.
"Give me a sec" actually makes you give a second of your life (any second, at any point in your life, a la Shrek 4) to the person you say it to.

[edit]: was watching Once Upon a Time just now and I realized that Rumpelstiltskin (not the OUaT version per se, also the original one) would make a great master or one of the masters of the Market. Maybe the Market is actually a Fey Court like that of the Erlking or Kringle?
That might categorize it too much though. I do kinda like the idea of an unaffiliated market.

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

If you had it as Rumplestiltskin's demense in the nevernever, with ties to New Orleans, many low level talents wouldn't even notice they had left the real world, and to enter his demense you could require an agreement that any an all promises and requests were binding, since there is a running theme of the Fae taking all promises at the letter of the law.

this is something I'd be interested in

Cool, welcome aboard!

Just a quick idea I had to work out concerning a possible Accorded Neutral Ground in New Orleans and Louisiana in general (outside of my area of Gentilly). Will need some work though.

The Mistress of the Mississippi: a seemingly restored old paddlewheel steamboat that stems from the 19th century. The public knows the Mistress as a restored tourist attraction that travels up and down the Mississippi river and its tributaries from the harbor of New Orleans and back. Tourists can hitch a ride on the steamboat from settlement to settlement during the day but during the night the Mistress becomes a mix between a saloon, a restaurant and an old fashioned version of a nightclub. During this time the main deck, including the restaurant and the nightclub, is open to the public but the rest of the steamboat, including the bar and living quarters, are only accessible to the mysterious private club known as the Mistress’ Misters and Misses. Members of this reclusive private club are allowed to rent a room for overnight stay and it is said that some are even permanent inhabitants. Unknown to the public, the Mistress is Accorded Neutral Ground and is widely used by supernatural beings and those in the know to meet, greet and deal. Those who are on the boat are protected by the Unseelie Accords both during the day, when the steamboat functions as a mode of transportation, and during the night, when it serves a social establishment and meeting grounds. Only those in the know about the supernatural are allowed to become members of the Mistress’ Misters and Misses that reside in the private sections of the steamboat. Nobody knows who the owner of the Mistress is but it is likely that he or she is a very powerful supernatural signer of the Accords and an extremely wealthy individual, as the maintenance costs of the steamboat are reported to be almost prohibitive.

THAT is a brilliant idea.

Also sorry I've been away, conference ran long.

Actually, just taking a quick break. So I'll be posting everything I've found tonight.

A bit of google research is turning up a wealth of folklore, history and features that make amazing story hooks.

Google the "LaLaurie Mansion" if you're not planning on eating anytime soon.

Maybe an idea to set up a site or dropbox or something where we can compile our ideas and information?

Pathfinder Adventure Subscriber

What if we make a wiki or something?

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

Obsidian Portal is a good place for that.

Radiant Oath

Hey i've played (and ran) a couple games of dresden before can i join you for some gaming?

Pathfinder Adventure Subscriber

I am not opposed to you joining.

Welcome!

I checked out Obsidian Portal, while the basic version is free it seems to be very limited (1 campaign map, 2 mb total uploads) and the premium version is a bit expensive to my tastes (only GM needs an account but it's $5/month or $40/year).
Other suggestions?

Pathfinder Adventure Subscriber

What about using a google site made into a wiki? or one of the existing wiki sites? I've used PBWorks (i think that's the name, been a couple years) in the past, though google might be pretty easy to manage. That way we can tie all the information together?

Ahhhh.... Geeze.... ok finally posting my notes on East New Orleans.

Also, I'd be very excited to have you join, Icewhisp. It will be good to have someone more experienced with the rules on board. (Also, I'd be very happy to step down from potential GM if you're up to take over haha)

Also, if we find a wiki type site we can use, I'll repost this on that. But for now here are my notes.

New Orleans East AKA East New Orleans AKA Da East

Historical Facts:
- One of the most devastated area's of NO during Katrina (The entire city district fell to the storm)
- since the 1980s its suffered from urban decay and disinvestment, population dropped by 20,000 to 30,000 since the year 2000, many homes are abandoned. The exception is the very wealthy neighborhoods such as Eastover (the most famous).
-Eastover is a gated community for the ritzier citizens, it even has its own golf course and what not.
-The wealthier neighborhoods used to be predominantly white upper crust, but lately the demographics have shifted to the wealthy white collar african american community. This is the new majority population.
-Origianally called Lake Forest due to its original development around Lake Forest Blvd. (but this is way early in history, I'm guessing its something only out of touch immortal/long lived beings would call it)
-Unlike a large chunk of NO famous for its clutter in the street, Da East has most utilities installed underground instead through wood covered pipes and massive tangles of cable common in the rest of the city.

Potential Landmarks:
-Village de l'East AKA Versailles AKA Little Vietnam: Famous for its ethnic foods (the most famous being Dong Phuong Restaurant and Bakery which, despite not being a chain, has a name outside the city) One of these could be a fun supernatural hang out maybe? or a place for mortal organizations to hang out? like the cops or a specific crime syndicate?
-Alcee Fortier Blvd (its within Little Vietnam) is a huge commercial hub. Probably has malls and cafes and the like, haven't gotten to in depth research on that yet.
-Industrial Canal: A shipping canal (man made) that has the only industrial neighborhood in the entire district at its shore. Warehouses and the like are probably common, as its a port of sorts.
-Historic Fort Pike, haven't found too many ghost stories about this place, but it was a major battle site in the Civil War and also is a museum now. Floods frequently as well. Could be interesting.
-Bayou Sauvage National WIldlife Refuge. Seems like a good place for some fae to hang out.
-Lakefront Air Port, self explanatory for now.
-Audubon Louisiana Nature Center: More different fae to hang out?
-Lincoln Beach, not sure what's cool about this place, but its been mentioned as an important part of the district. Looking more into it later.
-NASA's Michoud Assembly Facility. Within Regional Business Park, a showdown at a NASA plant/lab could be a fun adventure climax. Other than that I've got no real reason to bring it up yet. Although having a presence from NASA potentially entering our story could be fun too. Maybe they've found a supernatural technology they think is alien? Etc Etc.

Ghost Stories I've found (Note: Not in my section. but I'm bringing them up cuz they're cool)
-Prince Suleyman (will explain more later, he had a harem and some bloody hands though. Now he's a ghost I hear.
-Pere Antoine, St Louis Cathedral in the French Quarter. This guy might be a friendly ghost, I hear he legitimately tried to help ppl before he died, yet he didn't pass on.

Looking forward to seeing what you've all figured out. We can move on from there.

Also, Since you've got more experience with this, Icewhisp, would you mind taking over with the city planning?

There is a template for a google site designed for a Dresden Files RPG. I can put it up later if you like, do we have a prefered site name?

It won't be able to go up till I get home later. I can spend time working on getting it up and all that.

EDIT: Dresden Files Templete
in case you wish to take a look.

Radiant Oath

That template looks great! And I will GM if you want me to however, i would prefer not to as I have mostly dm'ed Dresden files.

Pathfinder Adventure Subscriber

Perhaps you can just help guide us? And if you all can give me a name for the google site. I can have it started in a few hours. I'm on my phone and that would be best done when I am on my computer.

Radiant Oath

That works, Dresden takes slightly shorter than normal to learn though there is a couple things in the system which are unspecific, most groups have ruled different things. Though i'd be happy help people along and the GM(If you want help). I can also tell a couple things that need to be house ruled.

That template looks fantastic!

Names, ehm names:
1) Bayou Blundering
2) Small Problems in the Big Easy
3) Suburban Legends
4) Mardi Grasshoppers
5) Mississippi Mayhem
6) Dresden Down South
7) New Orleans Paranormal Events (NOPE)
8) Urban Legendary
9) Monsters, Magic and Mardi Gras
10) Arcana in Louisiana
11) Cajun Chaos

Radiant Oath

Just wondering what are each of those names supposed to represent? Are they campaign aspects or people or places?

Ah, mostly just playing with the fact that the game will take place in New Orleans.

[Edit]: Personally in favor of "Small Problems in the Big Easy" (Big Easy = nickname for New Orleans).

Sczarni

I would like to take part in this if you'll have me. I've never had a Dresden game that got off the the ground so would love a chance to play.

Hey everyone! I have been reading over what you all have been doing and this looks very interesting. I have never played the DFRPG, and I am quite new to the Fate system in general, but I would love to get in on this if there is still room available. I have all of the DF books and I classify myself as a major Dresdennerd (just finished reading the whole series again for the 3rd time, WOOT).

While I haven't played a classic pen and paper rpg in close to 15 years, but seeing and reading about the possibilities of this universe has gotten me itching to give it a try.

Radiant Oath

I'm down for more members along as the rest off the group is cool with it

I know I just sent in my request to be a part of this, but I have been thinking about something and I thought I would throw it out there for everyone to consider.

In the Your Story guide book there is a mentioning of an Autumn Court of the Fey. There isn't a lot of information on them, but I was able to search out a few messages boards where people are creating/using them. It just seemed to me that this type of intermediary court would go really well with a city like New Orleans.

The changing of the seasons and the changing of power from some to winter could create some powerful story ideas. Only downside is that we would have to come up with all of the information regarding the lesser known court.

Just food for thought!

Pathfinder Adventure Subscriber

I had noticed them myself, and we where already talking of having a lesser court of the fey ^^

To throw in my vote for the template name. I really like 2) Small Problems in the Big Easy. I would consider changing it to Big Problems in the Big Easy though simply for the fact it lends to more drama.

Also is there anything that you all would like me to do some research on specifically?

Actually at this point there's a lot of crap we need to look into that I haven't yet. But I'd really advise to ask Icewhisp for direction from here on out (at least with city building).

I'll admit that I stepped up and tried to coordinate when we didn't have an experienced player. But Now that we do I'll acknowledge that I'm not the most knowledgable man for the job.

Also, Deadspeak I'm cool with it. And I'll challenge you for ultimate Dresden Nerd haha (I'm currently on my 6th or 7th reread of the series. And I've personally converted about 10 people to "the faith") :p

But in all seriousness, I think a good number of those "titles" BIG came up with work really well for Aspects, Threats, or Themes. Although I'm not sure on the rules for taking them beyond the concept phase to the rules phase.

How do we handle that Whisp?

PS Kana, I'm not entirely sure what you're asking for the Google Site Name. Are you going to make us a website to play our campaign in?

If so I vote a variation on Deadspeak's variation to BIGs title thing.

(I like Small Problems in the Big Easy for an adventure, or theme purposes... but for over all campaign... wait for it......)

Big Easy and Bigger Problems.
(or some variation on that. I agree that small problems doesn't sound all that terrifying for an entire series of sessions.... but since we're gonna use the word 'Big" twice, we might as well draw as much attention to it as possible. Otherwise it could just sound like lazy titling) :p

Anyway, those are my thoughts.

Oh also, Dead, just in case Icewhisp doesn't respond to you soon, I'd say pick either the Suleyman or Pere Antoine ghost story and start digging into it. Then let us know which one you picked because I might jump on the other one as soon as I finish looking up Fort Pike. (Unless someone else wants the other ghost story then I'll find something else to look into)

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

Ah sorry, never looked at obsidian portal from a GM view, was not aware of the fees.
An Autumn court would need a balance, a Spring Court as well. Sidhe are big on balance.

Robert, it's always good to meet someone who loves the series as much as I do. While I haven't read the whole series back to back that many time, I have about 4 of the books that had to be replaced because I read them over and over.

Onward to the game. When coming up with the themes and threats for the New Orleans I guess one of the first things we need to decide is the type of game that we are going to start off with. Are we going for more of a mystery who done it type deal, or are we going for a major monster mash format. Also, and this may have been mentioned before, but what level were we planning on going with this?

I'll go ahead and jump on Suleyman and see what I can dig up on it.

Grimm- Very true, we could do something along the lines of a Spring Court, maybe there is a reason that that makes New Orleans special in the regards that the Winter/Summer Courts do not have a presence, but the Spring/Autumn Courts do.

Pathfinder Adventure Subscriber

I was going to make one to host our information, it might even work to play in. I just thought it could be nice to have our information organized ^^

Radiant Oath

Okay guys been reading your comments and what I like for the templet is "small problems in the big easy". Also I love the autumn court idea and have played in a couple games that included them. They make for a really good game because they are not too powerful like the winter or summer courts. However, sometimes their "parent" court can come in and stop the players if things get to out off hand.

City building seems really confusing because primarily it is. What i have seen is three different ways city's building can go down. First being the Gm creates it all. Second being each player makes his/her section and you put them all into the city. And finally the best but longest and most complicated is to create each part of the city as a whole group.

For power level, i find that submerged is best because it allows for character ideas to be more filled out. On the other hand unfortunately at that power level playing a true mortal becomes less appealing because the bonus it give isn't proportional.

Also for game style I prefer Mystery( though it is hard to write) with few serious fights that require planning on the players part ( only one or two a Story).

Pathfinder Adventure Subscriber

So i'll take that as name the Site: Small Problems in the Big Easy - correct?

And i believe we've also decided to include what's know as a 'Goblin Market' but with a different name, and a touch of Sigil flair.

Radiant Oath

Sounds all good to me. I was also wonder what other people's thoughts on power levels?

Radiant Oath

Also Kana did you set up the site?

I have some interest in doing this if you are looking for another possible player.

I've recently became a fan of the Dresden Files and devoured all the novels in the last two months or so and a good number of the short stories as well.

Although I don't know the rules, I believe that the RPG is roughly based on the FATE system?

Pathfinder Adventure Subscriber

It's created. I need to do some filling in of things.

Our Dresden Site

Radiant Oath

Yes it is based on fate. (Albeit a much more complex version) although i don't know how many players we have and how many we want (that is for the GM to decide)

Prince Suleyman

Mansion is located at 716 Dauphine Street

Site of the worst mass murder in New Orleans history.

The mansion was purchased during the Civil War by Suleyman

People reported that he had a large harem consisting of not only many women, but also young boys.

As soon as Suleyman moved in the reports of missing women, girls, and boys started.

It was also reported that there were constant orgies going on. (perhaps we could use this for some sort of ritual sex magic or something)

A passerby noticed blood dripping from the gallery and once running around to the front door saw that it was oozing from underneath the door.

Upon entering the police found blood covering the floors and walls. Body parts were strown across the house and they ended up having to count heads to get an actual body count.

Suleyman himself was found in a shallow grave believed buried alive due to dirt in his mouth and he had one hand sticking out of the grave as if he was trying to call his way out.

They think that he was the brother of a SUltan who once he went to power had Suleyman killed.

Currents residents of the house report seeing Suleyman, hearing shrieking and screaming at all hours, and hearing the sounds of body part/blood hit the floor.

(IN GAME)

I think we could use this grisly seem as perhaps some sort of failed attempt to raise a demon or something of that nature.

The power level of submerged would be fine with me. As far as the mystery format, I don't have a problem with that at all, but I would like a good bit of action personally thrown into the mix. I suppose a sort of half and half type of deal.

Kana-love the site great job! While I actually love the idea of having the red court cause a raid on a white court house, I think having it be some sort of huge failed attempt by mortals to control the supernatural only to have it turn on them would add some spookiness.

It could have been some sort of mass murder of the harem by Suleyman in the attempt to do ______ ritual only to have it backlash because he fudged on some symbol or something. We could even have his ghost going around causing trouble either on his own or under the command of whatever demon he was working to trap.

Pathfinder Adventure Subscriber

or a white court house raided by the red court?

Radiant Oath

Sounds like a pretty good idea. Though i'm still confused on what this research is for. Also new site is looking pretty good. I do have a couple questions just in general to you guys/gals. First to the site manager: Are we going to be editing our players in the player slots or you. Second: How many players do we want. Third: does anyone have character concepts they need help with or any help in general?
