Some of you might know the whole blogging scene from Eve and might have stumbled upon them and read posts about Excel in space. I have decided to pick that up for Pathfinder Online and even tho the game isn't out I will do my best to keep the posts interesting and entertaining. I will go over the weekly blog posts from GW and pick out the tidbits I find interesting, I will poke at some of the threads here and throw my thoughts about it (some might like 'em, others might disagree...)

Overall, I invite you to follow me as I start here with Survival in Golarion

Feel free to provide me with feedback, or let me know when you pick up the same or have a feel to share some thoughts with me (I might poke some of the more prolific posters here for their thoughts!)

Disclaimer:
Domain and the blog name might change over time, depending on how attached I get to it.
You might see me compare pathfinder with eve, and those will be my views and will not reflect what GW is planning/doing.

new post is up!

Thanks for the eve blog link. Truly blown-away by that.

For your PFO blog post #2 I liked how you described The Kingmaker AP, as I'd heard about it but did not know any of the details. So comparing to both a near equivalent in pathfinder and a near equivalent mmo in eve online I think was very well structured approach.

I wonder if castles might be a useful analogy to settlement hexes in PFO to contrast security layers of eve with hex islands in PFO for a mechanical examination of how the maps works perhaps in a future related blog that continues from this excellent "introduction"?

Not sure, but castles seem like terrestrial islands, looking at wiki entry:

A European innovation, castles originated in the 9th and 10th centuries, after the fall of the Carolingian Empire resulted in its territory being divided among individual lords and princes.

These nobles built castles to control the area immediately surrounding them, and were both offensive and defensive structures; they provided a base from which raids could be launched as well as protection from enemies.

Although their military origins are often emphasised in castle studies, the structures also served as centres of administration and symbols of power.

Urban castles were used to control the local populace and important travel routes, and rural castles were often situated near features that were integral to life in the community, such as mills and fertile land.

That might be a good way to describe security or compare/contrast to eve online? Seems to fit from what we know.

Thanks for the feedback.

I will do more comparing between Eve and PFO because there will be possible similarities (and I will put the disclaimer on top as per usual till we get real info). Even though Eve has it downsides and people dislike certain aspects of the game there are also things in it that are good and I will try to highlight them.

As for the structures etc and the castle. It is an idea I have for another blog about structures, how it can/might work and what I as a player would like to see.

Castle's are nice but it means you will want long sieges to take over said castle. I will see if I can find a good approach in how to incorporate them.

Thanks for the idea though!

Next one up about crafting / gathering! Also added an RSS feed to the site (might look into doing a fb / G+ site to be added to it all as well so people can follow that.

Should anyone be willing to be a guest blogger, feel free to drop me a PM!

Very good. I really like the comparative method. You can learn a lot very quickly about the rationale behind the system and how it was chosen by the devs, GWs.

The key with eve is the queue, transport that add dimensions to crafting, but also avoiding the horrible aspects of the other systems, it comes across very well in this particular blog.

You briefly mention the different scales of grafting from a solo for a basic item to potentially combining stuff for much more complex applications of crafting. Think that's good: Easy to dip your toes into, but a mountain of opportunity to climb however!

I'd have to think up a pet subject or hobby horse to jump on for a guest blog...

Dark Archive Goblin Squad Member

Thanks, next up will be a brief jump into PvP and do a comparrison again :)

new post is up!

Have to say GW kinda shot me in the head with the pvp post, So I put up my thoughts about this blog, and a comparison post will come over the weekend!

Goblin Squad Member

Psyblade, I could do a PvE guest blog of sorts if you like? I'd try to keep it conversational atst as comparative and attempt to brush some of GW's philosophy behind PvE + PvP into it? My style is usually a little dry (from my uni days) but I'd try to keep it succinct and conversation as possible.

Dark Archive Goblin Squad Member

sure, go for it! Once I am home I will create a user for you there so you can post it when you are done!

Good Idea

Oh, well however you wish, I was going to post the text, but whatever is expedient. :) I always take the thought of Thomas Mann when I write:

A writer is somebody for whom writing is more difficult than it is for other people

with pain in my heart and anger raging at my soul I learned last night that my domain has been the target of an Algerian hacker who went over my site and defaced my sites. Due to this I am forced to rebuild pfo blogging and start it up again. I will do this in the process of the next following weeks.

Sorry for this :(

Ouch, sorry to hear! One reason to almost always try to keep an offline backup of a site you administer on your local computer. The tactic has saved more than a few headaches in the past.

Take your time, and no need to apologize.

Goblin Squad Member

Agreed, no need to apologize, and we look forward to your blog's return.

Should have a blog for you when you're back up. ;)
