The fabled and extremely dark 5th season of Torchwood premieres on BBC America this Saturday. The only season of the show to have been an American production.

It might have been a mediocre two-parter.

Unfortunately it has about eight episodes worth of padding thrown in.

I'm trying to find something good to say about it, but the only thing I can come up with it, that Lauren Ambrose is in it and that she's absolutely terrific. But if even Captain Jack comes across as lukewarm, there's no hope left.

I enjoyed the story, but overall I agreed that it wasn't anywhere near as good as the first two seasons, or even as good as Children of Earth. It definitely had way too much padding in it.

Unfortunately Russell T. Davies has said that if he ever continues the series, this is the format he wants to keep. No more monster of the week, just longer storylines. Honestly, I really liked the monster of the week format, especially since they still managed to have a strong story arc through each of the first two seasons.
