Several months ago my brother started a PvP arena here on the boards. I wanted to check interest for a similar arena. Here's the catch all of the characters would be gestalt. Another possible idea I had was to have everyone submit there character with another person. this would mean that arena fights would be fought in duos. I think this would lead to some very interesting teamwork.
So who might be interested in playing something like this. Please don't post characters right now although concepts are fine. Also please tell me what you think about the teamwork idea.

I was thinking about posting something like this but then thought of the pain with the PbP style combat if not everyone is on... I would love to join though I would like to know more specifics like: level, point buy or die roll, if there are any non-mixing of classes (like you can't be two martial classes), what 3rd party material would be acceptable to use (I personally never look to 3rd party but I would like to know what my opponents could do).

i had a gestalt idea that seemed kinda fun, being a gunslinger on one side, and going with psychic warrior or psion up to Elocator on the other side. basically ending up with a guy who can walk up walls and stuff while shooting at people.
for my two cents, i would say mid levels would be the real sweet spot. high level games seem to die out due to overwhelming work required of the GM, and there is (in my opinion) an over-saturation of low level games on the boards. lv8-15 or so would be really nice.

sounds interesting.
I have been slaughtered in every one of these arena things. as my first match is always been against an opponent that specialized in the same area as my weakness.
also not so sure on the pairing idea as I don't have a fellow player to join with.
besides once you throw in combat ready mounts or ediolons and monsterous animal companions even familiars that can use magic items you already have small armies to get through before the actual combatant fights.
(yes fought them all and lost to them all)

i am also interested still. the weekends are when i make my characters.
i would play by myself or on a team with one or more other people.
i would like to try some of the Dreamscarred Press's Path of War Beta material, if that is ok. there are also some other character ideas i like, 3pp and otherwise.
i havent done many arenas (the one i DID do was an actual campaign in the arena, not just fights), but i did pretty well when PvP inevitably erupted in my old DnD 3.5 group. but i was much better at optimizing in 3.5 than i am in pathfinder.

:) I am hoping that people have a high enough interest in 2V2, because I want to play a defense specialist... :)
I am interested, but it depends on how much 3.(Splat) and 3rd party Publishing is allowed...
if its all pathfinder, Lets roll :D
if I end up facing people that can make an Elementalist, Diabolist with 22+ summoned monsters I'm out, and you cant say "I wont let that happen" while still allowing the 3rd party splat, because such a build would be viable

you could just make a rule, on top of normal rules, that say the arena has some effect on it that limits the number of beings within its bounds. a small number, like 6
that, or people who make builds with lots of minions have to fight on their own against teams. (this might be balanced by the fact that each team member gets full gold, but that one person with the minions has to spend their personal wealth on those minions)

That means if one team wins initiative, they can stomp a summoner team with a level 2 spell...
That's unbalanced as well...

Well I just came up with a number out of the top of my head
And the eidolon could probably one-hit any lv2 summons.
DM veto power on silly builds

The level 2 spell is any summon 1 for 1d4+1 lesser creatures... Max limit of creatures is reached, no summon for summoner... dominate ensues

good discussion forum then.
another cheap low level set up was a familiar that can use a wand.
give them a wand with 0 level spell vanish.
cheap invisibility you take your action and the familiar zaps you with the wand.
the chaarcter in question here had a familiar that had greater inviso as a spell like ability.
