That Paladin from Pathfinder Tales "Master of Devils"

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Now, I know there is going to be those who immediately say, "The novels are fiction! They have nothing to do with the game rules!". Yeah, yeah, I know, so don't bother reminding me of that, and besides I'm posting on behalf of someone else who doesn't even own a computer. Comments like that don't really help or have any true bearing on the question, which is:

In chapter 16, "Phoenix Warrior", Radovan encounters a paladin on his travels that

Spoiler:
can somehow split herself into two beings, one martial and one 'mystical'. And yet it is clear they are essentially the same person, given how the chapter ends.

Now, is there any actual way to do this and/or simulate this ability? Is there some archetype that I missed along the way?

Are we sure he was a Paladin? A Summoner can do it.

Summoners can really make their Eidolon look like an exact copy of themselves? Cool, didn't know that!

Regardless, it is stated several times in that book (that chapter, and subsequent ones) as well as in the sequel to that book (Queen of Thorns)that the person Radovan encountered is/was a paladin, so I'm fairly certain Dave Gross intended for this character to be a paladin. The question is, what kind?

Well the eidolon can not look like a specific person. However it can be made to have similarities. Plus disguise can go along way to doing that as well.

Ok, so not a "specific person" (like the summoner him/herself), but "their own person". Hmm. A tad off topic and irrelevant to the original question, but cool info nonetheless!

She's a paladin with a unique magic item. Want to stat it out with summoner rules?

Not really so interested in the Summoner rules per se, but now I'm curious about that magic item!

Personally, when I read that chapter of Master of Devils, I just assumed they were twins. It wasn't until Radovan was talking about it in Queen of Thorns that I realized that he thought they were the same person.

I would honestly just run it as two different characters who look alike, and have a magic item that allows them to teleport to each others location, perhaps with a special Illusion effect to make it seem like they're the same person in two different bodies.

Ah, yeah- but the thing is, I have a player here (for a Wrath of the Righteous campaign) who was hoping to maybe be able to build a Paladin character who could end up with an ability like she had in Master of Devils. I'm kinda hoping Dave will give us a teaser about that Magic Item, sounds like a pretty cool one :)

It was never a question for me of the Paladin being one person in two bodies/ forms, especially given how

Spoiler:
Quivering Palm only works on both of them at the same time, and not one or the other, i.e., he only had 'part of her' by snagging one, and not the other. Especially since he couldn't 'snuff' her until he had a hold of both parts.

Fwiw, we were just discussing this scene with the paladin earlier, and the thought came up, "ok, so we know how it ends up for this person/character, but how did they get there? Wouldn't it be cool if Dave Gross would write up a story about one of these (admittedly minor) characters' origin & journey?"

While I'm delighted by your suggestion, the Phoenix Warrior is not one of the characters I'm most likely to include in a story. She's pretty cool, isn't she?

I like the idea that you can stat her out any way you like to include her in your campaign. It's cool to think there'll be twin versions, magic-item versions, and others out there in the wide world of greater Golarion.
