This question has been asked in various ways on the board but not been definitely answered, an FAQ response would be appreciated.
Does the lingering metamagic feat increase the duration of the spell in question to one round or does its duration remain instantaneous.
Ramifications:
A spell with a duration can be dispelled, extended, and is affected by the lingering evocations ability of the generation subschool of evocation:
If the spell doesn't have duration, than it can't be dispelled, and more importantly, it can be affected by the selective spell metamagic:
(a selective spell uses up a spell slot one level higher than the spell’s actual level.)"

Lingering spell metamagic says:
"Those already in the area suffer no additional harm, but other creatures or objects entering the area are subject to its effects."
So even if you use lingering evocations on a lingering spell fireball, only the initial fireball damage would be dealt unless a creature outside specifically moves into the fireball.

I agree that the extra damage isn't amazing on its own, but the full text of lingering spell:
Meaning that smart players can have concealment clouds that only affect enemies, and this with lingering evocations means that you can place this and enemies can't fire into, through, or out of it, and makes melee easier, but it doesn't affect allies. Bonus points if dazing and its an area that enemies will not want to go and can't fire into but allies can stay in it.

Yes, but my question is, if an instantaneous spell is modified with the lingering spell metamagic, does it get a duration of one round, or does its duration remain instantaneous. I listed what could be used with lingering spell if it gains a duration, or remains instantaneous, to show the effects of either, but I expect only selective spell or lingering evocations can be used with lingering spell, I would like to know which one, however.
