So I was thinking of running a pre game to WotR by having the players be hired as carvan guards for a cold iron shipment from mine to Kenbras. See I would think the demons and minions would be attacking shipments of one the things that hurt them. Are there any pfs that are like this and where are they mined at?

Cold iron, is standard iron.
Steel/Standard weapons in the CORE are made of steel.
Both Steel and Cold-Iron are made from raw iron/pig iron/iron ore.
The process is different though
For Steel some charcoal(carbon) dust is added to the metal ore either in molten form or as the blade is being hammered into shape.
For Cold-Iron weapons the carbon dust is not added to the iron. The Iron is smelted and forged at a colder temperature as the raw cold-iron does not need as hot a melting temp as the steel (iron+carbon) does.

No, it's not.
This iron, mined deep underground and known for its effectiveness against demons and fey creatures, is forged at a lower temperature to preserve its delicate properties.
The iron has intrinsic properties, and then it's forged at low temperatures to not spoil them. It's not the process that invests it with the capacity to pierce DR/cold iron.
Exactly. Cold iron weapons are WORSE than steel weapons.
Cold iron weapons do no less damage than steel weapons and they bypass the DR of fey, demons and other creatures. So they are worse only at high levels and only if you have a +3 or better weapon, as cold iron weapons are more expensive to enchant and a +3 weapon bypasses damage reduction as cold iron and silver.
