If you choose a variant aasimar heritage, can you still pick an alternate racial trait? Or does it work like a variant class feature where you can not pick two things that change the same feature? If you know, please reference the relevant rule.

If more information is needed, I;m looking at the Peri-kin. It has Alternate Skill Modifiers and an Alternate Spell-Like Ability.
An aasimar alternate racial trait listed is:
Immortal Spark: This racial trait replaces the skilled and spell-like ability racial traits.
I'm curious if you can apply both at character creation because both of the choices alter the racial skills and spell like ability.

If your Aasimar still has some kind of skills (or "skilled") and some sort of spell-like ability, then that can be swapped out for the alternate trait. But if the one trait removes either of those things, then no. The reason being, once you exchange "Trait X" for "Trait Y", you no longer have "Trait X" to swap out. But If "Trait X" is just modified to something else (like, dancing lights 3x/ day instead of mage hand 3x/day), then you could still exchange it for a completely different "Trait Y". Does this make sense, or is it too abstract?
