2 people marked this as a favorite. |

Not permanent, but I have to be honest - with only one weapon in the deck, I have a hard time envisioning him choosing anything but "weapon" for the favored card time. Having his one weapon card be buried at the bottom of the deck puts him at a pretty big disadvantage for combat checks until he hits it, and it makes a lot of sense to use the favored type ability to get the rarest card in the deck into your hand from the get-go.

On the other hand, if you choose favored type "Weapon" and your weapon is actually buried at the bottom of your deck you risk starting the game with 3 cards in hand and 12 in your discard
It is not that bad, you start with 3 cards in hand and 12 in your deck, giving you limited options in your first turn only.
Draw Starting Hands. Each character card includes a hand size for that character; draw that number of cards from your character deck. The character card also lists a favored card type. If you did not draw at least 1 card of that type, discard that hand and draw again, repeating as needed until your hand contains at least 1 card of the specified type.
Shuffle any discarded cards back into the character deck.
Emphasis mine

It's not even that bad. Mike's reply from BGG:
Seriously, this is a legit question. Shuffle the discards back into the deck at the point where you have no cards in your deck and keep drawing from that point. So if you have 3 cards of Seoni's 6 hand size when you reach the end of your deck, shuffle the discards into the deck at that point and draw 3 more cards.
However, if you're searching for armor in Lem's deck, please let the other players start playing without you.

I am sooooo lost in this thread.
If we don't get a favored card in the initial draw, we put all the cards back into the character deck and reshuffle.
There's playing with just "three cards in hand and 12 in your deck" or "let the other players start playing without you" stuff.
For us, it's put all the cards back into your deck. Reshuffle that 15 and re-draw to get the favored card.
What am I missing?

You need to read the FAQ:
FAQ Q&A:
I'm drawing my starting hand, and my favored card is one of the last cards in the deck. After all that discarding, there are only a couple cards left. Do I just start with a smaller hand?
No—just draw the last few cards, which will guarantee you've finally got your favored card type (as long as you remembered to actually put any in your deck!), then shuffle your discards and continue filling your hand.
Resolution: On page 7 of the rulebook, under "Draw Starting Hands," add the following, just before the last sentence:
"If you discard so many cards that you can't draw up to your full hand size, draw all of the remaining cards, then shuffle the discard pile into your deck and draw the rest of your hand."

Three things:
One: The way we've told you to do it minimizes the number of draws it takes to ensure you get your favored card. If your favored card were the bottom card in a 15-card deck, and your hand size were 6, our method ensures you get that card in no more than 3 draws. Your way, you may have to redraw any number of times until you happen to shuffle that card into the top 6.
Two: The "three cards in hand" thing was somebody missing part of the rules: they drew 6 cards and discarded them, then 6 more and discarded them, then picked up the last three and missed the part about shuffling the discards and drawing to fill their hand, so thought they were stuck with a three-card hand.
Three: Lem doesn't have armor in his deck (unless he's taken it as a card feat). So if people are waiting for you to draw one, they're going to be waiting a very long time. "Let them start without you" was a joke on Mike's part.
