Would there even be a way for a caster to use Lib. Comm. to help free himself? The only thing I can think of is for him to wait till it's his turn, cast the spell as a standard instead of an immediate action (is that allowed, and concentration check?) then use his immediate action to do the escape artist attempt. If not allowed, how about the other way around, immediate to cast and move or standard to escape artist?
Any ideas?

As written, no, you cannot cast it upon yourself for any benefit. There is no way to get an extra swift/immediate action, and it is not allow to cast a spell using a different kind of action that the stated casting time.
As far as rulings go, I would lean towards allowing the escape artist check as part of casting the spell on your self.

No.
That was an intentional design and balance issue with the spell (it is only a L1), the Devs made it the way it is for a reason... it helps others, not yourself.
The fluff of the spell was even meant for it to be used on others not yourself, the original writer did it for Andoran to help quickly free slaves being rescued.
By RAW and RAI it is the way it is very specifically to not do what you're asking.
Take Freedom of Movement if you want protection for yourself, or get a familiar that can use a wand or an ally willing to spare a L1 slot to cover you.
