Life Link Revelation of the Oracle of life question

Rules Questions

Silver Crusade

Hi all,

One of my players has an oracle of life and he reach the 3rd level and take the Life Link revelation and we had a small talk about how the revelation work:

- You can heal 5 hp every round and receive this amount in your turn to a wounded ally even the ally only has been wounded one time for 20 hp?

-You heal 5hp ONLY one time every round if the ally receives wounds for more of the 5 hp in this round?

Another example: A fighter receives 20 hp of damage in the first round, then the oracle ally linked with the fighter heal him 5 hp and receive 5 in his turn. In the second round the fighter is not wounded by the enemies, but he has -15 hp of his maximum hps, he heals 5 more hp in the second round for the Life Link ability or not?

Thanks and sorry for this question but i want to be sure how the ability works.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

At the beginning of the Oracle's turn, you check the health of everyone with whom the Oracle is Life Linked; anyone who has 5 or more wounds below their maximum HP* heals 5 points, and the Oracle takes those 5 HP as damage.

So let's say that your Oracle is Life Linked to three people (the maximum allowed by his level). A is at 30\35 HP, B is at 15\42, and C is at 29\31. At the start of the Oracle's turn, A and B both heal 5 HP, C heals nothing because he's not at least 5 below his HP, and the Oracle takes 10 damage.

Next round, A is at 35\35, B is at 20\42, and C is at 29\31. A is maxed and heals nothing, B heals another 5 (now 25\42), C heals nothing, and the Oracle takes another 5 damage. And so on.

*And who is alive or dying, but not dead (i.e., not negative their CON score).

Xaratherus has it.

Life Link is amazing. It adds another means for an Oracle to keep the group alive in addition to spells, channels, and turning into a Life Elemental.

And an Oracle with Life Link that took the Fey Foundling feat at 1st level essentially grants the benefits of the feat to his allies.

"Oh, you're down 5hp, and we're out of combat? Don't zap yourself with that wand. Let me Life Link you first, then zap me with that wand."

OKthanks for the help the player has the reason, not the Gm!!

Yes Nefreet the player has this feat too it is a very munchking combo!!

I wouldn't call it "Munchkin". I'd call it a sound use of game mechanics.

My Oracle uses this combination as well. He's a Half-Elf. He speaks Treant, took the "Spiritual Forester" trait, and tattoos trees and flowers all over him. His name is "Faan", which some people misconstrue as "Fawn", but which actually means "White" in elven, to describe his hair and (clouded) eyes.

He's pretty much in every way a Fey Foundling. And if you're born with such a blessing, why not grow up and utilize a class feature that works well with it?

Odd related question\idea: What happens if the target has non-lethal damage as well?

I know normally when you heal lethal damage you heal an equal amount of non-lethal; just wondering if the Oracle would wind up healing 5 lethal and 5 non-lethal (and wind up with 5 lethal and 5 non-lethal himself). Or would he heal 5 lethal, 5 non-lethal, and only take 5 lethal?

The target heals 5 lethal, 5 nonlethal, and the oracle would take 5 lethal. The mechanic of the ability for one target does not directly hinge on the mechanical benefits of the other. So, for example, if the target has the 'fast healing' feat, he would heal more than 5, but the oracle would still only take 5. Or another angle, if the oracle had a temporary hit point (say, from virtue), he would lose the temp hp, and 4 more 'normal' hit points...but the target still healed 5 hit points.

With two oracles of life in a party, it gets a little wild.
