tips on Creating a Scenario / Campaign

Advice

So soon my group will be in between campaigns/dm's and they asked me if id like to create a scenario/campaign. The idea is to "try" to make it last 2-3 game sessions. Right now we are level 8, but im sure by then we could be level 10 or maybe even as high as 12.

Ive DM'd before...once, was a lot of fun. That was old school dnd tho, i have a good deal more system mastery with pathfinder so i think ill be able to do a better job.

I dont want to just run a module, i dont like them. Coming up with a story...easy, but the actual nuts and bolts im a little more lost on.

anyone know of any guides to creating scenarios/campaigns are? or is this a trial by fire kinda thing?

Keep it simple and also open. Don't try to come up with an overcomplex plot, a simple "go to that cave and kill the monster" can be much more fun if its done well than a confusing conspiracy plot that leaves everyone lost.
Make one big location or three smaller ones, that are interesting places to explore.

Since the PCs will be 9th or 10th level, you might even consider using the old "Against the Giants" modules. They are not adventure plots like most current published adventures, but rather three big dungeons inhabited by hill giants, frost giants, and fire giants. The task isn't to kill all the giants (though that's an option), but to find out why they are suddenly showing up in the area and raiding villages. That means getting inside their bases, find the important information, and get out again. Either with or without all the giants dead.
