GMing & Day Jobs

I know that when you GM you can't do a Day Job but was wondering if this could be reconsidered. I know a lot of people who have chars that can really use Day Job checks and therefore are resistant to GMing due to the lack of a check. Given that you get the gold, boon(s), etc it doesn't seem unreasonable to also get a Day Job check. It would also go a long way to getting more people to GM. Just a thought!

People are refusing to GM over 50gp?

Shadow Lodge 3/5

Its more like hundreds for some people, also not sure if you're aware but there are a lot of other things you can do in place of a day job. So by removing day jobs you also remove those things.

fah, if you are so worried about the day job roll apply it to another character.

They also offered boons to help witht his at gencon. I gave both of mine away.

If people want to get Day Jobs for GMing, then they should totally try to make their way to a convention that has boons. You know, for some reason...

<_< >_>

Shadow Lodge 3/5

Ah the infamous Con boons. lol Sadly not everyone can go to large Con's and accumulate a stack of boons two feet high. :-P What is the name of the boon of which you speak anyway? Obviously if they gave out boons for this I highly doubt they'll change how it works.

The reason GMs don't get the day job is because they incur no risk for their xp and gold, and have no need to spend consumables unlike people playing. I think it is well balanced as it is.

Felix,

There's a practical and a philosophical reason that GMs don't get Day Job rolls (or any other benefit that relies on chance).

1) The GM has no risk of expending potions, bullets, scrolls, etc.

2) Which of the GM's characters makes the roll? Who witnesses it? What if the GM can't remember what the character's Perform modifier is?

Shadow Lodge 3/5

Yeah I understand the reasons balance wise, just heard it mentioned and can see the potential implication myself with a bunch of my chars. No biggie really, I imagine most people work around it by just applying the GM credit to non day job chars.

I think for most people, they generally only apply GM credit to the first few levels, where they aren't going to get the super high GP rates, then at the levels where they can, they play the character.... I don't see this as a huge issue but see it more of an excuse to not have to GM... just my 2 coppers

I agree with this.

Also the I won't GM without a day job roll a bluff to management to change the ruling.

Refusing to DM a scernario twice is much more a problem.

That's all funny to me, because even though I barely have one star, I would rather play my characters, just usng the GM creds to get off the dreaded 0xp/pp 150gp game.

Maybe if I get to push a quirky design to a min level, but generally I just like to play. I also like to GM.

And not getting my day job will not stop me(since I am thinking that I don't necessarily want to use all te credits, anyways).

Can you use a higher tier chronicle for a lev 1 character like you could for a pregen?

I saw the boon, and considered choosing it when I had the option. I'd like to see day jobs for GM's too, but since they made a boon instead, you'll probably need to wait one more year.

I can't believe that day jobs on GM credit is a deal-breaker for anyone; if you've created a 'day job monkey' then just apply the credit to another PC.

I apply GM credit to:

- Ruthlessly level up selected PCs (that I'm not so emotionally attached to that I want to play them at every level) so that I might be able to play 'Eyes of the Ten' with my local players in the next year or so
- Level PCs up that were 1 XP away from a new level in advance of a con, so I don't have to worry about levelling up between slots
- Make sure my PCs start with 2 prestige and ~650gp

At no point have day-jobs been a concern.

A quick and easy fix would be if you DM your character takes 10 on the check, that way there's no potential for "oh look a 20!"

Afraid to ask what the Boon is.

More afraid I agree with Chris. :P

I thought of the 'take 10' bit myself BNW, to be honest I don't see it worth the effort. Like Chris pointed out, my GMPC gets all the gold, all the (good) boons, all the goodies and expends 0 resources. It might make a difference with Ksenia (since I'm slow playing her to not jump a full level after GMing Broken Chains) but that's a corner case.
