Mythic Leadership / Mythic Cohorts

Advice

So, with no official Mythic Leadership feat (why?), are there already some homebrew rules around? How to increase the survivability of cohorts in a mythic game?

PS: I know of the Champion/Marshal abilities, I guess they are OK but only for followers... and only if you have Champions/Marshals around...

Do you really think it is necessary that your companions be Mythic as well? I think if you have Mythic cohorts it dilutes the special nature of being mythical heros.

Claxon's reasoning is exactly why there is no Mythic Leadership feat.

Instead, if you pick up the Crusader champion path ability, you can give all of your followers the ability to surge once per day using your Hit Dice. That is plenty.

Well the Guardian, Champion, and Hierophant all have abilities that can enhance their cohort, so I'm not seeing a massive problem. do a quick search of your PDF (assuming you have one) using the word cohort. There is a spell Wizards can use to protect them and vasius abilities spread among the Paths.

Thanks Claxon. I can see the point now. You are certainly right.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

I'd just raise the cohort cap to effective character level -2, that is, a 14th level character with 6 mythic tiers would be effective level 17 (just like monster CR is calculated) and could gain a 15th level cohort with a high enough leadership score.

My problem with no Leadership (Mythic) is not that the cohort does not use Mythic abilities, though it is Hard to Kill they need more then most.
It is that followers cap way too early, you can be stuck with max 326 followers at level 11, tier 4 (see example).
Waiting for Leadership (Epic)at level 21, tier 10 (see example), where you can get a massive jump to from 326 followers to 4562 followers

The leadership feat could give up to level 8 characters as followers with a Leadership Score Limit of 36 (which gives 1418 followers)
Having Prerequisites like: Cha 21, Leadership, Leadership Score 21

Example Calculations:
Charisma: 16(base stat) +2(race) +2(Level 4/8) +4(Headband of Alluring Charisma +4) +1(Tome of Leadership and Influence +1) +4(Tier 2/4) = Cha 29(+9)
Fellowship Score: 11(Level) +9(Cha) +4(Crusader-Tier 4) +1(Reputision) = Score of 25 (gives 326 followers)

Charisma: 16(base)+2(race)+5(Level 4/8/12/16/20)+6(HoAC+6)+5(ToL&I+5)+10(Tier 2/4/6/8/10) = Cha 44(+17)
Fellowship Score: 21(level)+17(Cha)+10(tier)+1(Rep.) = Score of 49 (gives 4562 followers)

Of those path abilities gives power to others it is only cohort that only can be gained by feat, all others are gained by class.
Cohorts get separate xp even if it has a limit, why can't the feat add a limit of Cohort Tier, like half or -2 like levels as well.
Then again, I support the DM giving cohorts mythic tiers on whim, for party balance and such not because a player wants it
