Noob Druid Alert... question

Rules Questions

I am building a Elf Druid with the Treant companion.
Am I correct that the companion starts with an 11 AC and maxes out at 12 AC at 4th level?

Yes. That is, of course, assuming you don't put armor on it or cast buffs on it or give it any AC boosting magic items.

ARG says that plant companions can't learn Armor Proficiency feats, which is what lead me to believe that I must be missing something....Treant companions must be seriously inbred or something to have natural armor that is so low.....

Thanks for the assurance though.

You're right about the Armor Proficiency. It doesn't say you, however, that you can't put them in armor, though. You'd just need to find armor with a 0 ACP, so it doesn't subtract anything from attack rolls and all the other things ACP gets subtracted from if you aren't proficient. That's at most a +3 AC armor, unfortunately.

From a flavor point of view however, some may have issues with a druid who cannot wear metal armor outfitting it's treant companion in metal armor.

Not saying you can't, just that some people might feel it "off".

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Masterwork wooden armor and bone studded leather are both all-natural +3 AC, 0 ACP armors, so it's still an option.

If you're willing to pour feats into it, Dodge and Improved Natural Armor would give the treant +1 AC per feat, but I'm not certain it's worth it.
