Can you disguise spells via some kind of skill?

Advice

I have a Charmer, (infernal sorcerer) who tries to charm while he's totally unobserved right now, but is there a feat that allows a Buff-check or something that would let me cast a Charm Person or something without alerting those around me that I'm doing so?

I'd guess slight of hand or bluff versus Sense Motive to see that I'm hiding a spell, then allowing Spellcraft to ID the spell as normal?

There are several feats, but Charm Person has both verbal and somatic components of the spell meaning that you have to speak spell outloud and move your hands.

To hide it completely, Silent and Still metamagic feat will work and you can use it even infront of a opponent without worry.

If you wish to spare a feat, you might try to use Silent only and stealthily cast spell behind a corner.

A simple Sleight of Hand or Bluff wouldn't normally be sufficient since you are effectively ignoring game mechanics and feats which serve exactly for this. It might be possible to ignore everything tho if target is too far to see or hear you.

I still tend to spook players sometimes when I ask them "So you cast a spell infront of the NPC?"

There were some ways in 3E... in PF, the only (good/practical) one I know of is the Dissident of Dawn, a prestige class for clerics and inquisitors of Saranrae.

Quote:

Secret Caster (Ex)

At 2nd level, a Dissident of dawn can disguise his spellcasting with a Bluff check (for spells with verbal components), opposed by the observer's Sense Motive check, and/or a Sleight of Hand check (for spells with somatic components), opposed by the observer's Perception check. Depending on the situation, the Dissident of dawn's Bluff and/or Sleight of Hand check is modified according to the following table.

Penalty..............Condition

–0 ..................Spell has a range of personal
–5 ..................During combat
–5 ..................Spell has a range of touch
–10 .................Spell has a range longer than touch
–Spell level ×2 .....Spell has a visible, audible, or otherwise observable effect
Automatic failure ...Spell has an observable effect that clearly emanates from the caster

Casting a spell in this fashion increases its casting time to a full-round action (if normally a standard action or less), or doubles the casting time of spells with a casting time longer than a full-round action. A spell cast in this way does not provoke attacks of opportunity from observers that fail to recognize it for what it is. For spells with both verbal and somatic components, the spell still provokes attacks of opportunity from observers unless they fail both their Sense Motive and Perception checks.

Is a feat that allows bards to disguise the spell as a performance. But unless you multiclass into bard, not really too useful for you

Just a few ideas:

  • Burst spells, like Hypnotism, can be cast from around a corner.
  • If you can't hide the casting... just alter their memory afterwards.
  • Cranking up your Bluff skill can make anything deniable.
  • Cast now, touch later. Preferably by your Familiar.
  • The Rakshasa bloodline makes spells look like other spells.
  • Ventriloquism can be cast in advance.
  • Check on the rules for Perception checks - in some environments you can be within casting range but outside detection range.
  • Create a distraction first.
  • Use a ring of Spell Storing.
  • Or a Gauntlet of Spell Storing - just don't hit too hard, make it look like a friendly pat on the back.
