Hi all!
I'm really new to Society play, built a really quick character for a game, but not sure I'm sold on it and looking at alternative ideas.
Questions I can;t seem to fine answers to:
- Can you have things made from special materials with a beginning character?
- If so, are the following allowed?: Bone, Stone, Obsidian, Viridium/Blood Crystal (is the +20gp per item for ammunition per sling bullet, or per pack of bullets?)
I have a really fun concept for a True Primitive Barbarian that has High Con and carries a special viridium/Blood Crystal weapon from his tribe, or something along those lines, Probably wielding a spear, hand axe and sling, wearing hide armour.
I really like the idea of playing a savage, primitive brute that's special because his tribe has access to such a vital material.

Hello, and welcome to the nutho.. group.

Yes.
The guide to organized play (NOT to be confused with the field guide)
Page 24 under always available items
All basic armor, gear, items, and weapons from Chapter
6 of the Core Rulebook, including Small and Large-sized
items. This does not include equipment made from
dragonhide, but it does include equipment made from
the other special materials, such as alchemical silver
and cold iron
If so, are the following allowed?: Bone, Stone, Obsidian, Viridium
You check the additional resources page Find the book the thing is in, and then find out if its legal or not. If you click that link you see under Ultimate Equipment
Special Materials: All special materials, except angel skin, living steel and wyroot, are legal for play.
Bone: Yes
Stone: Yes
Obsidian: yes
Viridium: Yes, but you're not affording it at a starting characters paygrade
(is the +20gp per item for ammunition per sling bullet, or per pack of bullets?)
Its per sling bullet, and you need to buy 20? of them at a shot in PFS. (i think thats the right number, I'll dig if i don't get ninjad)
edit: Hey found it in the guide linked above.
Items must be purchased at full value. This means you
cannot buy broken weapons or armor; you cannot buy
partially charged wands, rods, or staves; and you must buy
ammunition in full lots (typically 10 or 20 for mundane
ammunition and 50 for magical ammunition). You may
only purchase items of less than full value if they appear
that way on a Chronicle sheet.
I really like the idea of playing a savage, primitive brute that's special because his tribe has access to such a vital material.
Welcome to wakanda :)

@BigNorseWolf: Thanks, Devouring the PDF's as we speak.
Thank the character concept is valid? I've been dying to play a slow, primitive, smashy, non-thinky character for a while. Too bad Wild Rager isn't allowed, it's exactly what I was looking at. *pout*
I know that a lot of folks think that dumb characters are boring, but they can be sucha great change of pace.

Definitely. There's a lot of "blank space" on golarion (by design), so if you say that some little tribe somewhere out in the lands of the linorm kings has a big chunk of viridium in its volcanoes there's no reason what you're doing is against canon.
I love dumb characters myself. I HATE trying to rp average stats.

Something to be aware of as an FYI. As far as PFS is considered, you are an inhabitant of the Grand City of Absalom, so you don't actually live with your tribe, you live at the Pathfinder Grand Lodge of Absalom. So, while you may purchase a Viridium or a Blood Crystal weapon, you will not be able to start the game, carrying one, since you only start with 150gp.

Emphasis mine.
Does this also apply to ammunition for guns? The chart in Ultimate Combat in regards to gun ammunition prices does price it for lots and per bullet (or alchemical cartridge).
A friend of mine is a Gunslinger and has bought ammunition for his gun by small increments most times. Is that ok?

If it is listed in the table at a per unit price, you can buy per unit.
If the base has a lot (like arrows come in sets of 20), then you need to buy it by the lot.
For mundane ammunition. I believe magical ammunition is always in lots of 50, but could be wrong on that.

Yes, ytou can buy ammunition in the lot listed, except for magical ammunition, which is always lots of 50, except when listed in smaller amounts on a chronicle.
Firearm bullets are sold individually, so one-off special ammunition is also available one-off. Makes them easier to deal with for some special materials than other ammunition types.
Sling bullets and crossbow bolts are sold in lots of 10, IIRC, so you need ot buy 10 X pieces of ammunition.
Arrows are, usually, sold in lots of 20, so must be bought in lots of 20.

The rules for recovering ammo (checking to see if any are broken, etc) are used, yes? That could make the Viriduim sling bullets last much longer...hmmmm
rats, if they weren't exotic I could potentially afford 5 viriduim shuriken...just a thought
I could start with a level of Martial Artist Monk, then move to True primitive....as long as I play him with the drawback so as not to make him suddenly forget how to read, etc...thoughts?
