lessor astral projection

Rules Questions

Can you use this spell to form a second body on the plane you were on when you cast this spell or do you just end up back in your body?

What happens if someone takes items from my original body?

Bump?

This spell functions as astral projection, except you cannot leave the Astral Plane and explore other planes (though you can still return to the plane you were on when you cast this spell).

Yes, exploring the Prime this way is possible.

Good defense plan for bad guys of a certain level then. Still a dispel magic could end it in one shot.

Could you choose to end the spell if you are at negative HP?

The lesser form is just like the normal 9th level spell in that once your new body/form is slain or destroyed, which I assume happens at negative hp, you automatically return to your original body. You do gain two permanent negative levels, though.

No, you can not form a body on the plane you originated from using Either version of the spell. The only return to the Prime Material plane when using either spell is back to your own body(s)

@LazarX How do you come up with the interpretation?

Grand Lodge

Because it was a standing rule for astral projection in 3.5, and No DM worth his salt, would use any interpretation that allows for effective no risk adventuring.

IF you can get this past your DM, all the power to you. But not on any table I judge.

But you agree the wording seems to suggest it is possible, though? And it's hardly "no risk", as I remember 3.5 statted up things that could sever the silver cord, correct? And two permanent negative levels when your astral body is destroyed means no healing someone up from negative hp to conscious again, nor use of Breath of Life, both of which are cheap compared to Greater Restoration. And it IS 9th level magic, so...

Wording can suggest ANYTHING depending how you want to twist it. And again given that the things that could sever the astral cord are found ONLY on the Astral Plane, that's a straw defense at best.

I follow a general rule on magic, if there is more than one valid way to interpret a rule, I go with the strict one, and I don't make any rulings to increase the power of spellcasters more than they are already.

Why is my agreement so important? Again, I've given you my opinion, and I'm not the one you have to convince... that person is your GM.

Thanks guys. You make good points but i think I will go with Lazar at my table. I can see both sides of this one though.

What happens if you cast plane shift while lessor projected?

You can only form a body on a different plane, not the same plane you cast it on.

So I could go to any other plane and cast lessor astral projection and then plane shift to get to the prime?

A strict reading of lesser astral projection's line "except you cannot leave the Astral Plane and explore other planes" would say no you couldn't plane shift.
