So every so often in a various Beastiary X forum, or in general someone brings up the thought of a Dinosaurs Revisited book. Typically while well met it does get pointed out that there isn't much to "revisit" since they are just regular animals.

Thinking on it, I say maybe there is something to "revisit" if you look at adding the more fantasic elements from Dinosaur fiction. Take the Carnotaurus (shout out to my fav). First, let say, he shows up in a AP or a Beastiary happy and normal. Now we do Revisited and give him two new forms, first the ultimate chameleon variety shown in the novel "The Lost World", second the "Longhorn Carnotaurus" normal but maybe a gore attack and really long horns. Raptors could be adapated to be full on human intelligence levels and practicing shamans(druids) ala Broncosaurus Rex.

Off the bat those are two examples that hit me, but I'm sure many other folks, more learned than I in this regard, have several other examples. Perhaps if we can compile them it would show enough interest and give the Paizo folks a little help in making this book come true for a lot of fans?

My two copper for what it's worth.

P.S. Regardless, my Barbarian needs a Carnotaurs mount. Just saying Mr. Jacobs.

I still think they should make a magical beast version of a brontosaurus. They could even give it magical thunder powers, too, I suppose.

What dinosaurs probably need is an explanation of how they fit into the ecosystem. What do they eat? What eats them? How close do they live to cities? How do dragons treat them? Do people think of them as regular animals, or as legendary beasts lost to history? Are there people who train and domesticate them apart from the occasional druid? Where can I get a pet velociraptor?

Dude, don't you just go to Raptors-R-Us in Mwangi? They just don't stock Carnotaurus :(

On a more related note, I would agree for something along those lines.

Yup - we should have stats for normal (nowadays boring) Dino's, and also stats for fantastical super-sauroids (like the 'smart' raptors of Jurassic Park).

I want my players to scream and run in fear when the T-Rex breathes fire. :D

Ohhhh... and Herculoids. Definitely Herculoids.

So perhaps give us a list of 'normal' creatures, and then a bunch of templates, and then a bunch of examples of what some of those would look like ('Awakened' Raptors, Fiedish T-Rex's, Two-headed bronto's, vampiric pteradons, A stegosaur that can shoot its spikes, etc, etc).

And at least one race; we need some Sleestak.

Clearly we need an example of each dinosaur, but with lasers on them. Because nothing is better than dinosaurs with lasers. Except maybe the Dinobots. :)

We need more Dire T-Rex.

Another idea might be a campaign setting book themed on Lost Worlds...could cover how dinosaurs and megafauna fit into the environment of places like the Mwangi expanse, Realms of the Mammoth Lords, Deep Tolguth (sp?) etc.

Oh and we need playable feathered sapient velociraptors

This is a tough one because they need 10 catagories to keep it in line with the "Revisited" series. I would say this would be most likely to happen if the layout went something like this:

1. Dinosuars (Carnivors)
2. Dinosaurs (Herbivors)
3. Mega-Fauna
4. Animals (Reptiles/Anphibeans)
5. Animals (Mammals)
6. Animals (Birds)
7. Animals (Ichthians)
8. Vermin
9. Companion & Familiars
10. Pets, Mounts, and Livestock

To pick just 10 dinosaurs would be a is probably little narrow of range. However, something like the list above might have a chace.

If you want a fire-breathing T-Rex, just give it the half-dragon template.

Because.

I would want three things out of such a product.

1. Non-scientific names for each of the "Thunder Lizards"

2. An explanation of how they behave, since all dinosaur behavior is conjectural. A set in stone explanation of their behavior would be useful.

3. Character options that interact with dinosaurs.

How is this for a book?

Chapter Breakdown

1. Triceratops
2. T-Rex
3. Ankylosaurus
4. Stegasaurus
5. Diplodocus
6. Dilophosaurus
7. Theriznosaurus
8. Troodon
9. Deinonychus
10.Baryonyx

honorable mention, Iguanadon, Oviraptor, and compsognathus

Points of Interest
1. Explanations of how druids/rangers/cavaliers obtain them.
2. Fantastic regional templates for each one. (Fire breathing T-Rex from Sargava, chameleon Deinonychus, Venomous Dilophosaurus, and so on.
3. Where they are located on Golarion (Tian Xia, Mwangi, Arcadia...)
4. Regional names/nicknames
5. Dinosaurs with feathers drawn by Wayne A. Reynolds
6. Dinomancer Prestige class/Archtype
