do dhampirs count as humans?

Rules Questions

Perhaps this has been ruled on somewhere. I am unsure, but I want to take racial heritage (elf) as a dhampir so that I qualify for a racial archetype for oracle. Is this possible?

Under the fluff of the dhampir it clearly states that the only know way one is created is with a vampire and a human.

On a side note, why is this exclusively for humans? Can't other races contract the disease as well? Shouldn't they conceivably all be able to birth a dhampir?

Either way, I want to have elven blood as a dhampir. Is this possible?

Grand Lodge

No.

They count as Dhampir.

Ahh blackblood...always the most subtle and eloquent responder.

If I was a human with racial heritage, I would qualify for the archetype though, right?

Grand Lodge

Yes.

Human with Racial Heritage(Dhampir) would count as both Human, and Dhampir.

Much like a Tiefling, borne of two Humans, only counts as a Tiefling, a Dhampir, only counts as a Dhampir.

Not Human.

Although I see the RAW in this and have to agree with you, this is clearly something the developers should look into since, as I stated above, a dhampir can potentially be born from any race. Unlike other hybrid races, a dhampir has a clear and true bloodline only going back to his parents. Therefore he would have a Mich stronger link to his parent race then, say, a half-elf or half-orc.

The only way I see the current RAW making sense is that the vampiric blood completely overrides the parent DNA, in which case (for aesthetic purposes only) a dhampir of ANY race is quite possible.

Also this would genetically speaking make vampire mating possible and render the dhampir for all purposes a vampire in full truth, which it is not.

Grand Lodge

Magical creatures getting together with Humans to create a magical race.

Why do the work the way they do?

Magic.

Half-elf w/ racial heritage(dhampir)? (disclaimer: no idea if that works)

This works, but my intent was to take the archetype and still have the negative energy affinity. So it won't work for ME.

Grand Lodge

Half-Elf does not qualify for the Racial Heritage feat.

Feats and Classes are not effects.

See here

You could be an Elf and take the feat Necromantic Affinity if you could somehow afford the 15 con (maybe through a belt). That would give you the negative energy affinity you are looking for.
