Casting Time: 1 action

Rules Questions

Silver Crusade

My paladin has a couple of SLAs that have this in their description. Does this mean I can use either my move or my standard action to use the SLA, or does this refer to a specific action?

Names of these abilities would help give context for this question.

Silver Crusade

Paladin's Detect Evil amd Tiefling alternate racial trait Deathwatch.

And damn, I didn't realize I had cast a summon gamer designer spell there. I'll have to be more careful in the future.

Unless otherwise specified, using a Sp or Su ability is a standard action.

Paladin detect evil:
Detect Evil (Sp): At will, a paladin can use detect evil, as the spell. A paladin can, as a move action, concentrate on a single item or individual within 60 feet and determine if it is evil, learning the strength of its aura as if having studied it for 3 rounds. While focusing on one individual or object, the paladin does not detect evil in any other object or individual within range.

Because this is a (Sp) ability, the default use is a standard action, the "concentrate on a single item or individual" is a move action.

Tiefling soul seer:
Soul Seer: Rare tieflings have a peculiar sight that allows them to see the state of a creature's soul. They can use deathwatch at will as spell-like ability. This racial trait replaces the spell-like ability and fiendish sorcery racial traits.

Because this is a (Sp) ability, the default use is a standard action.

Neither of these abilities just say "1 action," so I'm not sure what you're talking about in your original post.

The SRD says:
"Detect Evil (Sp): At will, a paladin can use detect evil, as the spell. A paladin can, as a move action, concentrate on a single item or individual within 60 feet and determine if it is evil, learning the strength of its aura as if having studied it for 3 rounds. While focusing on one individual or object, the paladin does not detect evil in any other object or individual within range."

So that looks like a move action to use the 3 rounds in one on a single creature or object.

Normally a spell-like ability should be a standard action unless the description says otherwise, of course, I would defer to Sean if he said differently.

Edit: See if you don't update quicker, then you get ninja'd by the man himself!
