Whats the rules on creating a new spell?


Here are the rules.

Hmm, there are damage cap guidelines somewhere too, but I am not sure where.

Generally when designing a new spell, you should look at at variety of spells at the desired spell level, a variety above, and a variety below. Some existing spells are too weak and some are too strong, so try to get a sense of where the middle is.


Ultimate magic p.128-139 has guidelines for designing new spells.

inlcude some example spells from each level that are considered 'average'.

When designing a new spell, you should always work closely with your DM to ensure it is balanced for the campaign you are playing in.

Well I'd imagine this would be a given, since the DM would have to approve any non-standard spell in any case. ;)

Some players feel entitled.
