New SLA rules question

Rules Questions

They mentioned SLA's count as spells for qualification of feats/PRC's.

They've mentioned that items can qualify for feats if you can wear them for 24 hours.

Does APPRENTICE'S CHEATING GLOVES allow you to take arcane strike?

No, because that is a spell completion magic item. Not a spell like ability that your character has. Items can not be used to qualify for feats

Also isn't the SLA counting for feats/PRC gone now?

Yep, outdated rules.

meh, outdated rules are just 'house rules' at many tables these days

Some can. It depends on the circumstances.

Having an Int of 11, and then putting on a Headband +2, would qualify you for Combat Expertise. But the moment you take the Headband off, you lose access to the feat.

There's an Ioun Stone that grants Weapon Focus. You could use that to qualify for Weapon Specialization. Same problem if you deactivate the Ioun Stone.

Tons of other examples exist. But the qualifying condition must be "always on". If you had a 3/day ability that granted you Power Attack, you couldn't use it to qualify for Cleave.

Items can be used to qualify for feats if they grant SLAs and the feats either modify SLAs or require the specific spell the SLA casts.

For example: Item Master: Teleportation Mastery gives the character Dimension Door as an SLA, which in turn qualifies the character for Dimensional Agility.

Not true. Many feats modify limited use spells and/or abilities.

Nobody has an "always on" Dimensional Door or Summon Monster ability, yet feats exist to modify both that have been explicitly clarified through FAQs to work for SLAs.

That's not at all what I was talking about. You're quoting me out of context.

Qualifying for a feat with another feat granted by an item.

I mentioned nothing about SLAs.

Also James Risner is correct, under the context of his comment.

There used to be an FAQ that more broadly opened up Prestige Classes and feats just by having any level appropriate SLA.

That FAQ was removed.

True, you omitted any mention of SLAs, which do allow an individual to qualify for feats with an ability that can only be used X times per day.

I provided examples of feats that are explicitly allowed for X/day abilities.

The FAQ was not removed, it was narrowed in scope.

The FAQ was linked so everyone could easily verify exactly what the current scope is.
