A question about what kinds of creatures may be on the islands of ancient Azlant.

Silver Crusade

So, I'm running a game where the party has gone to the what remains of Azlant, mostly the islands that remains. I'm curious as to what kinds of sentient creatures you guys think would still be there. I had planned on having some small pockets of feral Azlant humans living in a barbarian-esque culture, but beyond that I'm lost. I don't want the barbarians to be the first thing they encounter, so I need something, or somethings for them to encounter first.

An aboleth Demi-lich would be cool. Or maybe just an insane aboleth.

I've been doing something similar with Thasillonian. Same basic culture and time so hopefully this will be useful

Gillmen are an obvious thing to encounter.

Rune Giants and Inverted Giants.

Things with Fiendish or 1/2 Fiend templates applied to them

Silver Crusade

Didn't think about Gillmen, and I like the Aboleth idea too. What about something like a "mook" creature, something to fill an orc/goblin/kobold role?

Why not use a re-flavored Ettercap or altered Lizardfolk. Maybe play with a template or something to add some stuff to them.
Undine would be neatish, or maybe a society of Draugr could be interesting...complete with governing bodies and laws and all...how would a civilized group of drowned dead react to intruders?

Don't forget morlocks in the ruins, as well as golems and other constructs. Perhaps the Pathfinder Society module King Xeros of Old Azlant might be useful for some ideas and stats.

Skum, chuuls, cloakers, and chokers, oh my!

Silver Crusade

Definitely more Thassalonian than Azlanti but sin spawn are great low levell mooks

From Shore to Sea does take place on an Azlanti Isle.

Spoiler:
It includes, skum, an aboleth, cloakers, and will o the wisps that the Azlanti used for street lighting

If you are willing to use non-canonic monsters check for Wayfinder #8's Ulat-Ashad... A terrible-terrible late Azlanti aboleth-human hybrid!

Spoiler:
Yes, I admit that as author of that I might be biased...

The two canonical post-Earthfall Azlanti descendents are morlocks and dark folk. Both are suitable at low levels, but have that pesky light sensitivity. Of course, that might mean little on a perpetually fog-shrouded island.

Skum are a very good suggestion. In fact, this thread has inspired me towards a riff on the Time Machine, in which friendly, docile and dumb coastal gillmen are raised as livestock by the skum lurking in deeper waters.

Mezlans! Maybe a unit of them that was trapped but then recently released?

Vegepygmies. Thousands of Vegepygmies. No, Millions of Vegepygmies.

And don't forget the aboleth-engineered faceless stalkers!

Akatas and other Outer Void creatures brought to Golarion by the Starfall.

Basically, a larger version of the Devil's Elbow from the Children of the Void AP.

Don't forget masked elves from the Mordant Spire, who consider the territory theirs to protect.

There are likely numerous bound outsiders from the ancient days still floating around.

Incorporeal undead from the ancient era are a good way to convey expository information while at the same time providing a good fight (and a possibly recurring villain).

Azanti were experts at clockworks, so a lot of those and similar constructs likely abound.

Pitcairn-isle-style meager colonies inhabited by shipwreck survivors.

Lots and lots of sea drakes and dragons inhabiting the choicest spires.
