Gamer Life General Discussion

A GREAT many of us on the boards here cut our teeth on earlier editions of D&D (for me it was AD&D 1st Edition). Dragon and Dungeon Magazines were almost mandatory for me and some of my friends, and I started wondering lately where some of the illustrators from those days are now, folks such as Larry Elmore, Jim Holloway, Erol Otus, and Fred Fields. Then in 2e we were graced with works by Brom, Jeff Easley, Clyde Caldwell, and my favorite, RK Post.

And earlier publications for 3.0 and 3.5 had some beautiful work, as well. Todd Lockwood still just blows me away and I'm a fan of his paleo art, as well.

I don't know if you would define much of their work as "great art" but they helped define the look of a game that still inspires artists today.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Yay Golden Khan of Ethengar. Doesn't actually have anything to do with the contents, but there you are, Cledwyll at his best. Another artist I would have loved to see more of is Ned Dameron. As it was, he did the priests in FR Adventures, and interior illos in Dungeon of Death and Cloak and Dagger. Probably missed some, of course.

Liberty's Edge

Is Boris Vallejo still around?
