clawblades and catfolk

Rules Questions

I'm playing a catfolk barbarian and I have a few questions:

1.) How many attacks do I get with the cat claw feat?
2.) How would having claw blades change how many attacks I can make in a round?
3.) I really have no idea how the natural attacks work for this character, so if anyone can run it through me, I'd love to know.

Grand Lodge

1) Two.

2) Claw blades allow you to use the Claws as manufactured weapons, so they follow the same limit. This means, unless you choose to two weapon fight, or have high enough BAB, you can attack with one.

3) Natural attacks are easier than you think. Claws are primary natural attacks. Primary natural attack all use full BAB + Strength mod to hit, and strength mod to damage. If used with manufactured weapon attacks, they become secondary, so Full BAB + Strength -5 to hit, and half strength to damage.

So if I use one claw blade and a claw attack, it's Full BAB+ str for the claw blade and BAB+STR-5 for the natural claw? Would I need feats for that, or is that only if I have two sets of claw blades?

Claw Blades allow you to use iteratives with your Claws, though. As noted, you'd now have to take the TWF penalty when attacking with both, though (if you had two sets and did the extra attack). It seems wierd, but it's how the rules work.

Grand Lodge

Now, if you attack with one Claw equipped with a Claw Blade, and one without, then the Claw Blade would be Full BAB + Str to hit, and Full Str to damage, whilst the non-Claw Blade Claw would be Full BAB + Str -5, and half Str to damage.

You don't need feats to do this, or two-weapon fight with two claw blades.

If you do two weapon fight, using two claw blades, without the two weapon fighting feat, you will have a –4, penalty to the primary claw, and –8 penalty to the off-hand claw.

So, unless you plan to invest in the two weapon fighting feats, the penalties are not worth it.

So I should go with one claw with a blade and another without so I only suffer from the -5 from the other attack if I want to put enhancements on the claw blade?

Grand Lodge

I would start out that way, if Claw blades are a must.

Though, just using no claw blades at first, to get two Full BAB attacks with Full strength to damage sounds better.

I highly suggest posting your build in the Advice forum.

Agreed, until you get iterative attacks, its much better toskip the blades and get two primary attacks in a full attack action, with full bab and str bonus.

Natural attacks become better in quantity, so try to get more... Like bite fits the flavor of a feral feline, then you get all three with full bab and str...
