Chevalier Smite Evil question

Advice

Hey, I'm new to pathfinder and I'm thinking of doing a dip into Chevalier with my Foehammer

Now the Smite Evil class feature states;

Quote:
Once per day, a chevalier can smite evil as if he were a Paladin of his character level.

Does this include the additional uses per day the Paladin gains from level up? I'd normally think not, but the first line of the paladins Smite Evil is;

Quote:
Once per day, a paladin can call out to the powers of good to aid her in her struggle against evil.

And later says;

Quote:
At 4th level, and at every three levels thereafter, the paladin may smite evil one additional time per day, as indicated on Table: Paladin, to a maximum of seven times per day at 19th level.

Does this mean at character level 19 my Foehammer will be able to use Smite Evil seven times a day?

Isn't the chevalier smite evil based on your chevalier level?

It says Character level here and in the Cayden Cailean section of Second Darkeness Children of the Void

You're thinking too hard about this. It says you get to smite evil once a day as a paladin of your character level, not that you get the Smite Evil progression of a paladin of your character level.

And a Paladin of my character level would get additional uses of SE. I would agree with you flat out if both the Chevalier and Paladins Smite Evil Class features didn't both start with the words: "Once per day"

Although even one Smite Evil a day is useful.

You can smite like a paladin at your characterlevel (general rule)
But you can do it only once per day (spezial rule)

Special trumps general
