Can Bards chant / sing their performances via telepathy

Rules Questions

The Exchange

I am wondering, and this could apply to a number of different situations, if a bard is connected to a number of people via telepathy can he chant/sing in his head and confer the bonuses of his song to his allies that way.

What do you guys think?

Grand Lodge

"Each bardic performance has audible components, visual components or both .. If a bardic performance has audible components, the targets must be able to hear the bard". Ask your GM if telepathy counts as hearing. If it works, it doesn't extend the range of a performance that has a range limit and performances that require the target both to see and hear the bard still require line of sight.

Liberty's Edge

I don't believe so.

Liberty's Edge

It is really a DM call, but I would say that Starglim's limitations make sense.

The Exchange

Yeah, Starglim's observation ran right along the course with my thoughts but seemed like something I could intrepret wrong.

DM call. But I'd say yes. Why Nero telepathy over a corner case?

RAW I would say no, telepathy isn't 'hearing' necessarily and often allows communication when no shared language exists because it can have visual components. It would also keep a bard from being 'interrupted' by a silence or countersong type ability so balance could be a concern.
