Crafting and special materials to cheapen

Rules Questions

Dragonhide is cited to reduce the cost of energy resistance relevant to the immunity of the dragon by 25% (its still expensive but at least doesn't cost in slots but a flat gp cost). Could this be extended to other items (for example, dryad hair in cloaks of charisma or yuanti hide in a snakeskin tunic)? My DM recently extended us the same courtesy as dragonhide when we slew a pyrohydra because it had fire immunity.

Silver Crusade

I'd think this would fall under homebrew for category, and it's something our table has been discussing for quite some time.

I can't think of anything RAW that would indicate yes, however, there could easily be some such benefits/advantages incorporated in by the GM. After all, what is the point of rare spell components, besides perhaps gemstones *cough everything but restoration-wish-stoneskin-symbol-of-__-etc* if there can't be some sort of benefit?

It does make some sense from a story telling perspective. As an example, Portable Holes are, if memory serves, crafted out of phase spider webs and...something (it's very late here, don't judge me ;) ) So it's up the GM to decide how to approach this. Personally, I like it, however some might argue that such benefits are already included. In that, the magics can only be created/harnessed through such means already, using the above portable hole as an example. 'No, the price cannot go down any farther, do you have any idea how dangerous and expensive it is to gather phase spider webs?'

YMMV as always.
