Profane bonus to int...

Okay so I managed to get one of these from a boon but I have a question about it regarding skill points and bonus spells per day. Since normally, you have no way to do this in a normal PFS game, there seems to be little discussion on the matter. Anyways do profane bonus to int also increase the spell per day via bonus spells and does it give you extra skill points? If it does give you skill points, what happens when then effect wears off? Or do you handle it like a head band and assign a skill that just gets maxes out while active?

profane vs. enhancement vs. inherent vs. luck vs. whatever doesn't matter.
all that matters is whether it is "permanent" (24+ hour duration counts) or "temporary" (<24 hour duration).
the increased effect of "permanent" bonuses kicks in after 24 hours has passed.
see CRB glossary: ability score bonuses

Well that's the easier part of the question...so yes to bonus spells. But what about skills? The magic items have the skill worked into each + giving a max ranked skill...so would the profane bonus work the same way? I don't see how else you would deal with it going away otherwise....

Permanent Bonuses: Ability bonuses with a duration greater than 1 day actually increase the relevant ability score after 24 hours. Modify all skills and statistics related to that ability. This might cause you to gain skill points, hit points, and other bonuses. These bonuses should be noted separately in case they are removed.

What is the duration of the effect?

EDIT: I guess RAW there is nothing forcing you to put all ranks into one maxed out skill, but especially if the effect could possibly be ended/removed that seems the best approach and most similar to enhancement bonus precedent, although you could mark every single rank individually to remove them if that happens. You also gain language, bonus spells, etc.

It depends on how it is worded. If it says it is a permanent bonus as if gained through level advancement, you gain retroactive skill points, language, bonus spells, etc. Otherwise I think you just get the skill bonuses, spell slots and save DC bump if it's from an item.

Grand Lodge

There isn't any rules item that grants a permanent profane bonus to Int.

If it's just a temporary bonus than all you get are....

1. Increases to Int-based spellcasting DC's.

2. Better modifiers to Int based skills.

Bob's your uncle, you're done.

To clarify a little; The effect he's talking about is a boon from a PFS chronicle sheet, not any item or existing rules source. It has a duration of greater than 24 hours, but it *does* have a duration, and is not a permanent effect.

Except as the rules have already been quoted saying, any such effect with a duration greater than 24 hours is considered permanent.

Yep it's the boon one. It last for more then 24 hours...but it will wear off...eventually :P .

I would strongly consider treating it with the same rules as a headband of intellect. keeps it simple for the increase and the eventual decrease.

The Exchange 5/5

This was actually discussed on the GM board - in the thread for the scenario where you got the Boon. You might want to check there... (check for my post - as my PC got it in INT also, and I was asking this same question there.) I'd spoiler a link to it... but I don't know how to do that without giveing the name of the scenario also...

Edit:

Link to thread for the scenario:

Scenario.

post #81 is mine about bonus INT... Dennis Baker comments some after that.

Check for comments from the author... (Dennis Baker).

You could just not put the name of the scenario in the spoiler or as the spoiler name. ;)

I gave the GM credit for that to my Wizard, so I guess Im gonna need to track down that thread as well. Hmmm...

Treat it just like a headband, applies to spells and spells/day, pick a skill, and a language. Notate them, remove them when the time period is up.

This. It may be important down the road to note exactly what skill and language this particular boost to Intelligence grants. As it is a profane bonus, it stacks with a headband or fox's cunning so if something should negate one magical effect (like a dispelling effect) but not all of them, you'd need to have a record of what ancillary bonuses are also suppressed.

It just occurred to me that I have this on my Eldritch Knight, used the bonus on INT, forgot about the one-year thing, and I don't remember whether I dumped all the ranks into a single skill or not.

Craaaap. Guess I've got some checking to do when I get home tonight. :/

This is what I did when my character got his Int boost by this profane bonus.

I just put the skill points and language in parenthesis on my character sheet to keep track of them.

Question about languages.

Does increasing Intelligence scores at levels 4 and 8, or using aheadband of vast intelligence with ranks in a skill other than Linguistics, provide bonus languages?

I had thought that it did not, because the description of bonus languages specifically calls out your character's beginning languages with the Intelligence he has at the start of his career (beginning of 1st Level.)

This issue comes up a lot.

This was just FAQ'd a couple of weeks ago. The answer is yes.

Precisely. Here's the FAQ: LINK

The Exchange 5/5

just a side note...
My guy added Abysal for his Boon Language. I just figured it was fitting. (and I think I actually dumped all the points in Knowledge Planes too)
;)

Grand Lodge 5/5

I didnt know about the languages or the retroactive skill points. Looks like Im gonna have to back over my Wizard and check stuff out. :P

I figure I might repeat for emphasis since many people overlooked what I wrote in my first posts:
you only gain the increased benefits of a so-called "permanent" bonus (which means 24+ hr duration)
AFTER 24 hours have passed, so a bonus that lasts 30 hours will only give you those benefits for the last 6 hrs.
In the context of PFS, you will need to use the item and wait for 24 hrs in-game to pass before benefitting
(beyond the normal effect for so-called "temporary" bonuses)
