Chartered Company: The Green Dragon Legion

2 people marked this as a favorite.

I love being part of shaping an experience for other people, it's why I like to DM when I'm playing Pathfinder tabletop style. In MMO's this usually means I enjoy working as part of a guild or in this case, a Chartered Company.

This Company has been through several iterations in WoW, GW, GW2, an unranked team in LoL, and a very brief attempt in EVE. It has usually remained a very small core group, maybe 8-12 players including myself, because it was always more rewarding to sign on with bigger guilds, more influential and better resourced. Now I'd like to rebuild under the old banner and craft a friendly environment for like-minded players in search of a relatively non-restrictive community.

Your commentary, both IC and OOC is welcome. Can't be part of the community in isolation, after all.

And thus I present you with...
----------------------------------------------------------------
THE GREEN DRAGON LEGION

Alignment: NG
"All good folks have a place in the Legion, so long as they're willing to pitch in."
- Robuin Thunderhorn, Leader of the Legion

Government: Beneficent Dictatorship with Meritocratic Advisory Council
"I like democracy, at least as a concept. Who doesn't like knowing their voice can be heard, they can make a difference, and they'll at least get to discuss the issues openly? Discussion is all well and good, but someone has to make hard decisions at the end of it all, and that person has to bear the responsibility for the outcome. That's where I come in."
- Robuin Thunderhorn, Leader of the Legion

Role: Guardians, Bounty Hunters, Safe Havens, Seekers of Knowledge, and Community Builders.
"I have walked the long road north from Absalom to rebuild what was lost there. Perhaps in this wilderness my vision can thrive. An ideal society without the blinders idealism sets on us. An association of the best this world has to offer us, each both beautiful and strong. Vibrantly alive in their moment, and each placing their unique skills and perceptions on the communal altar to the betterment of us all."
- A History of the Legion: New Beginnings in the River Kingdoms
by Robuin Thunderhorn

Ideology::

Organization: After the tragic events in Absalom, the Legion was founded on principles of efficiency, clear communication, proper record-keeping, and comprehensive but concise systems of rules and procedures for undertaking any enterprise that poses a risk to group resources or personnel.

Self-Determination: No one wants another telling them what to do. All people have a voice. They can and have a duty to contribute to any decision that affects their life. In the same vein, everyone is responsible for their own words and actions.

Achievement and Merit: Thunderhorn knew that for free-thinking people to accept the strictures of his systems of rules and responsibilities, a fair implementation of them must occur. Veterans of combat, wealthy merchants, learned sages, and any who possess good reputations and the drive to leave great legacies are rewarded accordingly, with both power and responsibility.

Honor: Integrity is the root of character. Dishonesty breaks down the fibers that bind our company together, and we do not tolerate Oath-Breakers or Traitors.

Who Should Join: All races, roles, and skillsets are needed to carve a place for ourselves on the Crusader's Road.
"Don't tease the gnome. There are still traps ahead."
- Robuin Thunderhorn, Party Wizard of The Five Dead Mice

History::
The history of The Green Dragon Legion is in great part, the history of Robuin Thunderhorn, itinerant adventurer, world traveler, gentleman extraordinaire and social provocateur. The Legion began in two places near simultaneously, in Thunderhorn's philosophical musings on the nature of the "ideal society", and in his adventuring company's calamitous run in with the green wyrm Aasystrazyx.

While fleeing a badly planned, and horrifically botched attempt on the dragon's lair, Thunderhorn concluded that while the Five Blind Mice had been fine companions, they were both wildly incompetent planners and almost certainly dead. Upon reaching their base of operations just north of Absalom, Thunderhorn found a ruined crater and several tons of debris that represented the remains of the group's accumulated resources and infrastructure over the last five years.

With nothing to tether him, and the authorities asking uncomfortable questions about who bore responsibility for the dragon being roused, Robuin fled traveled north.

Welcome to PFO. I like the sound of the name but... in Pathfinder green dragons are evil, and your organization is neutral good.

I understand affection for an old name but you might still give some consideration to naming your group after a metallic dragon. Just a suggestion.

I've added your Guild to the Guild Recruitment & Helpful Links list. If you have a brief description you'd like to appear there to let people know about your guild while they're browsing that list, just PM me or post a clear request here.

Also, The Seventh Veil welcomes you to the community, and extends an offer of Diplomatic Outreach. (Note, this is not an offer for Alliance, just a way to open formal channels for private discussions.)

I love the Tolkien reference. Of course, I love most Tolkien references. ((It may be a bit off-putting at first, but the female vocalist actually sings beautifully - this is the band that got me past my aversion to scream metal with Guardians))

I'm also especially intrigued by this:

... it was always more rewarding to sign on with bigger guilds...

And I hope you'll consider signing on with The Seventh Veil.

Welcome to the Crusader Road Legionnaires.

I am theStormWeaver, Oligarch of the Mercatorum. I greet you as an official representative of my company.

Should you have need of trade goods, whether they be raw materials or finished products, we shall be there to fulfill that need.

@Nihimon:
Thank you for the linked vids.

Since you seem to be a real Tolkien fan, you probably know the Silmarils.

So, maybe you know of the Curse of Feanor, the Noldor and the dark elf praying at the edge of Thorns. Maybe you like this music, too.

To stop the Tolkien references here, i have to admit i never was a great Tolkien fan, despite reading LotR several times... Curse my Name.

Alas, since Tolkien "invented" our hobby, i think This will never End. Maybe because of the Wheel of Time.

@KingoftheThorns:
I earnestly apologize for capturing your thread this far.

It is obvious to me that you put much effort and TT experience into your company chapter. Although you seem to be a diehard do-gooder, i wish you the best of luck... ;).

@Dergard, I am indeed familiar with and a fan of Blind Guardian, although I think I prefer Fly. How can you not love a Heavy Metal song about Peter Pan? ;)

And now I too will try to quit hijacking our new friends' thread.

@KingOfTheThorns

The nation of Aeturnum welcomes you to PfO and cordially extends an invitation to establish diplomatic links. As you have not listed a guild site as yet feel free to visit ours Pax gaming and register and then if you pm me I can have diplomatic status accorded your sign in.

On a more general note feel free to join the merry people on the pfofan teamspeak discussions or drop into the aeturnum meet and greet tonight

I am so very glad to have received such a warm welcome from all of you. Thank you.

@Eldurian Darkrender - I am aware of the green's tendency towards evil, fear not. Tradition and story are very important to me and if you'll read just a bit of the history you'll find the IC inspiration for the name. As it always was, the Legion clashes with mighty foes and learns new lessons from each.

@Nihimon - I appreciate your welcome and offer of diplomatic ties. I think we can work together closely in days to come, but I particularly like my organization to operate outside the auspices of another authority. Allies not vassals, I'm sure you understand. As for the hijacking, I don't mind. Good music is always welcome, especially if I've never heard it before.

@Dergard - Again, apology not necessary. Though I'd split with your definition of "good". If by "good" you explicitly mean "not evil" then I suppose we're in agreement, but I've got a bit more prosaic view on how to conduct business. Regardless, good luck to yourself as well.

@ZenPagan - I would be pleased to establish diplomatic links with Aeturnum. Contacts bring work and work is the lifeblood of progress and refinement. I'll be sure to establish official diplomatic status as soon as I can.

Copper takes on a very green hue when weathered; they could just be rusty copper dragons.

I can relate very heavily to the tenets of this company! Are you still recruiting? I am a kindred soul and have been in search of companions such as you!

I look forward to adventuring with you soon!
